" Eileen Ohara actually told a friend of mine (no hearsay, I saw the email) that it wasn't her job to restrain the county budget. "That's the mayor's job." What a piece of work!"
Apparently it isn't the Mayors job either. I am impressed with Jen Ruggles, the rest including Oberbürgermeister Kim not so much.

In the midst of all the lava action... has anyone heard anything from Ashley or her campaign? Has she or her campaign done anything for her future constituents?

(and she has both Hilo and Kea'au addresses)
------------
Are multiple addresses now a prerequisite for running for council in a Puna district? Did we not learn enough from the last candidate that tried that scheme?

Not necessarily a supporter - but thought the question of what Ms. Kierkiewicz has been doing during this tragedy a good one. I snooped around a bit. She (Ashley) helped Ikaika Marzo with start up of Pu'uhonoa o Puna Information and Supply Hub. In addition to spending time at the hub she helps in a number of ways with logistic, social media, etc. A number of families pointed to her help in finding homes and organized a meeting for lower Puna farmers including working with others on building temporary shelters. She has spent time talking with those in shelters to find out most pressing needs and to understand and help solve those. A lot to do when she is working a full time job, is a mother of young children.
As to addresses, she lived in Hilo but two years ago moved with her young family to HPP. Like many of us she works in Hilo - makes her sensitive to that whole back and forth issue.

Without taking sides, I find the response from WAX a bit misleading....
Pu`uhonua o Puna (the HUB) was initiated by the landowner, Gilbert Aguinaldo, who the last I checked was supporting Ohara since her signs appeared on his property first. Everyone in the community has helped families find homes including Ms. Ohara as a friend of mine told me she found her rental with a lead from Ohara. The ag meeting was also prompted by a request from Mr. Aguinaldo to Fresh Onishi as much of his family is in ag and displaced. That came up at the meeting which I attended. Ms. Kierkiewicz was there to sign people in, but Ohara was also there and asked pertinent and meaningful questions as she understands agriculture and was an ag instructor at UHH. No input at the meeting from Kierkiewicz who didn’t attend the follow-up meeting with the Director of Ag, but Ohara did.
Found out from long term democratic party members that while Kierkiewicz claims to be the Chair of the Young Democrats, she effectively did nothing. The caucus of Young Democrats now must re-form, as under her leadership they didn’t follow proper procedures for their officer elections. Not a good recommendation for someone running for elected office!
Her Aunty told me Kierkiewicz is a Hilo girl. She bought a house in HPP with her finance nearly 2 years ago, but spends most of her time at her other place in Hilo; not knowledgeable about Puna.

It's all rather quaint that people still think voting matters.

Right now I'm pretty pissed off with Ashley.
Apparently Ashley's been calling CD as if she's already an elected official. I know for a fact that Ohara's already holding CD's feet to the flames, (or lava in this case). Ohara actually's lived in the lava zone for over 30 years, knows every road and back road, and she knows lots of the lava impacted people personally. AND, (I'll say it again), Ohara and Ruggles are elected officials!!!
We can't have every Tom, Dick, and Ashley calling CD and making demands. CD already has enough work to do, they are stretched far to thin, and more people making demands does not help.
Ashley's done a great job handing out diapers at, "da Hub". If she wants to look all politician like, that's something she can do and at the same time stay out of the way of people who have work to do.

Same observation here.
A manipulated distraction of the citizens.
