right next to OldCrocs thread, "Mazie is a bigot"
Old Croc's thread is "Mazie Called a bigot." The Fox report says Tulsi "evolved" from her traditional view on marriage. "Evolved" is the new Democrat Get Out of Jail Free card. You deserve an apology and I'm sorry Old Croc. In reading what I posted above, and your response to it in another thread (Tulsi for President) I did not mean to imply that you were calling her a bigot. My aim was more towards implication of her probably being a bigot if it's in national news. At this point I am so repulsed by nearly every politician that I almost seem to have taken the stand of "Guilty until proven innocent" with all of them. In fact the only politician that I like right now and the only guy that, to me, seems to have run to truly make a positive change for the people of his area and not for personal gain, is Russell Ruderman. I'm would like to believe that there are lots of others out there that are similar to him but I'm skeptical.

Mazie questioned whether a judicial nominee could be impartial because he is a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Tulsi said “We must call this out for what it is – religious bigotry.” Because her father Mike is a member of... the Knights of Columbus. The Knights of Columbus is not a religion, it is a lay organization. You cannot carry out religious bigotry against something that is not a religion. The organization in question however, the Knights of Columbus, has tenets which can infringe on the rights of individuals. Tulsi may have admirably if not accurately defended her father, but Mazie uses her role as Senator from Hawaii in order to protect the rights of individuals here, and insure proper checks and balances are maintained in government at a crucial point in our history. Today she noted: When you have to ask if the President is a Russian asset you know these are #NotNormalTimes. Jan. 16, 2019

I thought it was because the knights were associated with the Catholic religion...am I mistaken?

I thought it was because the knights were associated with the Catholic religion.
Yes they are, but the Knights are entirely separate from the church. They have generously donated a great amount of money to charities and other causes over the years, but it can come at a cost to those who accept their help. They are powerful and won't hesitate to influence either church or state. This doesn't necessarily disqualify a member of the Knights from an appointment on the federal bench as a judge, but it's not inappropriate for Mazie to question a nominee about their role in the organization and how it might influence their decision making process. According to the National Catholic Reporter: For more than a decade and a half, under the leadership of a former political operative, the Knights of Columbus has increasingly used its enormous wealth to influence the direction of the church, underwriting think tanks and news outlets while gaining entrée to some of the highest levels of decision-making in the church. Its capacity for funding has given the Knights of Columbus an inordinately loud voice, potentially drowning out that of others, and no other lay group can match the Knights' ability to leave its mark on the church. Some worry that such influence can actually distort the church's ecclesiology, its structure and its governance... https://www.ncronline.org/news/accountab...-influence

Mazie is an f'in Bigot hopte...
Frank, Here are Mazie's exact comments: “The Knights of Columbus has taken a number of extreme positions,” Hirono stated in written questions, citing the group’s contributions to California’s Proposition 8 campaign to legally define marriage as between one man and one woman. “If confirmed, do you intend to end your membership with this group to avoid any appearance of bias?” “Will you recuse yourself from all cases in which the Knights of Columbus has taken a position?” The Knights of Columbus have taken positions which are opposed to federal law. Mazie did not denigrate Brian Buescher's religion or his beliefs, she simply asked him whether he would set those beliefs aside when they conflicted with federal law. That's not bigotry, it's properly vetting a candidate for a position on the bench. What if a Muslim judge in America, a member of Knights of Islam* who had shown support for Sharia law was nominated for the federal bench, and Mazie asked them: “Will you recuse yourself from all cases in which the Knights of Islam* have taken a position?” Would Mazie be a bigot, or a senator asking a tough, challenging question which might affect decisions made by that person in the future? * not as real organization
