Metal Roof...
#1
I need to get about 25 sheets (panels) of metal roofing. I have a garage about 30' by 25' that needs roof replaced...

I guess my questions are...

Standard Corrugated 12' X 36" @ Home Depot 45 bucks a sheet. I've looked elsewhere a few places and the price is almost identical for 26 gauge.

Is this about the best price I'm going to find on the island? Should I look elsewhere for a better price?

What about maxi rib or J Rib?

I like the idea of clips. I like the clean look and not having to worry about leaking screw holes. Has anyone (do it yourselfer)tried installing a clip style roof? I hear that clips and RIB type design it's a tighter and stronger fit IE the wind will have a heard time ripping it up. How much harder is it to install a clip vs screwing it down?

I'm about to buy panels from home depot but thought it would be best to ask these questions first.

Thanks!!!!

Here is a pretty good web site ...

Go talk to the roofing people at HPM. They have a roofing plant at Shipman. I don't have any of your answers, but I do think you should check them out first. Best of luck.

I'd stay away from Home DePot or any other "big box" store. They have inferior products. If you can sometime, go into a big box store and weigh a tool. Go to a non-big box store and weigh the identical make and model number of tool. Generally, the tool at the non-big box shop will weigh more. The inferior tools have bushings instead of bearings, lighter components or less of them. Same make and model, though, at least according to the numbers on the tool. Astonishing, isn't it?

For a roof, quality is important.

Oh, hey! If you don't have a ceiling in your garage, you can use a few white fiberglass or those clear greenhouse panels to let in a lot of light into your garage. Some friends of mine have a green house they are using as a workshop and the amount of light green house panels let in is nice.

Thanks, that is one of the places I checked. Same price as home depot and same gauge (thickness) and same cost. The only other advantage would have been that they would have cut it to length. I went with HD, They get material from Mac Steel and I like the product that is made right here in hawaii. Plus they are painted with ultra cool infrared reflective pigments.. That's what I was looking for so...

Thanks tho! Smile
