quote: Thanks for sharing the link, Tom. I just watched it all. No talk of dragons at least, but “cubic tons” of water and many full heads of hair, and a couple of meth teeth. Apparently the entire island will be poisoned via water if the TMT is built. And an appetizer of spiritual desecration which will also be very very bad for the keiki and global warming. It’s like a long boring SNL skit. I waited for any sort of reasoned “testimony” and even after some of the main characters appeared twice there was none. Metal (un)health on parade. Even reason can’t defeat unreason, apparently, or so we will see... Any one else actually suffer through it? Cheers, Kirt

Kirt,
"What I need is a notice of protesting (on the Big Island) to occur...so I can be there to support the TMT." I understand your question and your support for the TMT, but adding even more protesters, for or against the TMT, is likely to harm everyone including the staff at the current observatories. Sign-waving in Hilo or Kona is fine, but increasing the number of protesters at wherever the site is will likely be counter-productive and would just cause more problems for the current observatories and their staff who work on the mountain. Your question has been brought up amongst MK observatory staff, i.e., counter-protests, and the conclusion is support for science on MK is very welcome but not if it ends up creating even more problems. As for planned counter-protests, no, I know nothing and given the above, I wouldn't tell you about them anyway.

Hi Kirt And Tom,
Sorry if i dissagree with u tom. I firmly believe WE NEED TO HAVE A POSITIVE PRESSENCE AWAY FROM THE TMT PROTESTERS I HAVE TALKED TO SANDRA AT TMT , AND SO FAR THEY ARE IN AGGREEMENT. BUT OF COURSE A LIMITED, AND POLITE, AND SAFE. I WILL BE THERE WITH MY "I LOVE TMT ,I LOVE STEM, I LOVE KIDS AND SCIENCE SIGNS. AND NOBODY GONNA STOP ME . I WANT MY LITTTLE PIECE OF DA MAUNA BACK SO WE ALL CAN ENJOY IT, NOT JUST SPECIAL PRACTISIONERS.EVERYBODY. IMHO ALOHA HPP HPP

I would not join the “protestors” at an illegal area, which is where I assume they would be. Not sure where is legal and where is illegal though. So, yeah, in an area away from the protestors.
Cheers, Kirt

Dan,
"Sorry if i dissagree with u tom. I firmly believe WE NEED TO HAVE A POSITIVE PRESSENCE AWAY FROM THE TMT PROTESTERS" Please don't shout. I agree that counter protests in areas away from the TMT protesters is just fine and I encourage that. However, let's assume the protests occur on the Saddle Road at the summit access road access point. There will be journalists there as well and as I'm sure you understand, they will be looking for stories. If a counter-protest occurs there and the Saddle Road ends up being closed, then not only will the current observatories be affected, so will everyone else who uses the Saddle road including those who commute to work between the east and west side of the island. If that happens, there is every chance the counter-protesters will be portrayed by some in the media as the cause of people not being able to work.

If a counter-protest occurs there and the Saddle Road ends up being closed
Anti-TMT protestors simply ignore the laws and/or polite requests and set up shop wherever and whenever they would like, but somehow the "problem" is that pro-TMT protestors wouldn't follow the rules and thus put the TMT in a bad light? Better yet, we can look forward to a decade of this?

a decade of this?
There were 25 protestors at the rally on Oahu last week. Protest leaders agreed the TMT is following the rules and the law. The governor and mayor have made statements about future law enforcement. No one knows where this is going - - but I don’t think swinging a pole at 25 hornets and then accidentally hitting the nest will improve the situation. So now "rule of law" is the problem?

So now "rule of law" is the problem?
Yes. Apparently there is a higher law: https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2019/06/29...and-board/ "Today we challenge UH, TMT and the state to not merely aim for what is technically legal. But for what is right, what is fair, and what is moral,” said Shelley Muneoka, with KAHEA: The Hawaiian-Environmental Alliance. Make America Normal Again (or at least slightly more normal)
