TMT construction begins Monday 15 July

"Master Navigator Kalepa Baybayan says it’s been hard to be one of the few Native Hawaiians vocally advocating for the telescopes over the last decade or so"

Bold by me.

I too know of a number of Hawaiian that are for the TMT, but are afraid to express their opinion publicly. Or vocally.

Councilman Tim Richard's statement. (He was 1 of 3 that voted against the moratorium). Well worth the time to read and contemplate .

Harry finding a path forward? I like the man but do not think he can do this without others professionally trained and skilled in multicultural relationships. We have such people in practice, right hear in Hilo. And, I think it will also take our State leaders pushing for a new direction for the Hawaiian people, other than the shoddy business as usual at OHA.

I agree reni, Harry alone my not have the skill set, and yes we do have people in our community that do, and as I said I am praying that Harry will find a way.

Many may remember the efforts of Friends of the Future’s Susan Maddox in creating Envision Maunakea...

And the many listening session they held in 2017, across the island, that included all the stake holders. The final report, published in 2018, can be read here..

Pro-TMT rally planned for this evening at State Capitol. (good article IMO - very lucid regarding some of the issues)

And, if you hear HNN tell it, along highway 11 in Hilo at the same time.

FYI @ Walgreen's lawn it sounds like (a.k.a. Sign-waver's Corner - and also on Hawaiian Homelands)

Walgreen's lawn

At this point, with so much at stake, and since there is so much support (at least one would think there is based on the comments made here) that the lawn area will quickly be overrun, and supporters will be overflowing into the parking lot, and fanning out up and down the highway. It may be quite a scene. I am looking forward to it.

Yesterday I noted that 100% of success in Hawaii is showing up.
I’d like to revise and update that number.
Now that everyone is making their voice heard on both sides of the issue - - clearly 200% of success in Hawaii is showing up.

Also, 200% of Hawaiians support and object to the TMT. It’s the best number we have at the moment as people won’t believe the Mason-Dixon poll, and Glinda Magical Polling is still crunching the numbers.
