There's a top 10 list of potential mayoral candidates from the Hawaii Tribune-Herald. The filing deadline is June 2nd, so plenty of time for big changes between now and then.
Four have pulled and filed nomination papers:
* Bob Fitzgerald
* Mitch Roth
* Mike Ruggles
* James "Jiro" Yuda
Five others have pulled papers but not yet filed:
* Kelly Greenwell
* Grayden K. Ha'i-Kelly
* Wendell Kaehuaea
* Abolghassem Abraham Sadegh
* Tante Urban
The 10th on their list is unannounced:
* Harry Kim
Brief details about the candidates are available at the link:

I've seen Tante Urban signs, are they allowed to campaign before filing?

Wendell Kaehuaea has had signs up for months around Hilo. He may just leave them up year round since he runs every election.

Ikaika seems like an honorable guy, but I can't get behind him if he is anti-telescope on the mauna... Wendell's position on TMT seems non-committal, I mostly like him because I know him.
Ikaika seems like an honorable guy who will get a few votes from Puna..

Mayor and Council have no power.
Campaign promises are empty.
Elect whichever figurehead will look good on the County website.

Ikaika's announcement really got me thinking. Getting a new boat launch, reopening roads, looking out for Puna ; he'd be great. I don't support his anti-TMT position but the more I think about it, the more the local, practical issues are a priority to me. And I haven't seen any other candidates come out in favor of TMT either. I don't think he'll be successful because people on other parts of the island aren't as familiar with him and don't necessarily want a mayor who puts FEMA money to work where it's needed most. But I wouldn't rule out voting for him and will see how this unfolds.
ETA: And he'd certainly look great on the county website!! :-)
Certainty will be the death of us.
