I had to give them the VIN to get this device. Probably burned it in to the memory and it will compare with the car.

There were 3 options one was a cellphone ap.

Does anyone think that current gas taxes would ever be dropped so that your gas purchased for generator, mower, tractor, weed whackers would not be taxed?

No, they will compare it on the backend, so they can discard data that's not from your car.

Note the "road usage charge" is State, leaving County to continue with a per-gallon gas tax or implement its own expensive "road usage" tax. Gas for stringtrimmers and generators won't have mileage trackers and thus won't be taxed for "road usage".

I got an email today. I have been selected to participate and they are mailing me a GPS tracker that plugs into the OBD II port.
When it comes I plan on driving an hour a day on unpaved roads in HPP.

Why would you do that?  

In general I'm in favor of discouraging both gasoline consumption and highway use, but am wondering if these changes could disproportionally affect those most dependent on vehicles for employment and least able to afford to pay their "fair share".

Because half of my driving is on dirt roads that don't get any of the gas tax.

to Obie: I appreciate your extra driving to bring the point home of how many miles of Puna roads are not supported by the gas tax. Let me know how to contribute to the gas $ money for the extra miles you're driving, and the beer fund for when your body is recuperating.

I would never recommend purposely trying to evade fuel taxes, but some airport fuel companies sell regular road vehicle gasoline sans tax and people have been known to purchase it for various uses outside the airport.

It would be easy to make the non ethanol gas non taxed. Most of it is used for off road purposes although there is nothing to prevent someone from from using it in vehicles. They could change the nozzle so it doesn't fit in modern cars I guess.

It is more likely they will increase the fuel tax on non-ethanol gas because (insert bogus environmental reason politician double speak).
