Swimmers & Surfers in Hawaii, Never Boared, Until Now
#1
A woman surfing on Oahu was attacked in the water, by, well, she describes it best:

She was watching the lineup looking for good waves...
“I saw something floating, I thought it was a monk seal... It didn’t look round like a monk seal, so, I don't know, I was ignoring it and thought maybe it was a log.”
“And then suddenly its face came out of the water,”
And then it was so close and it came up and I could see its teeth.”

The boar... swam toward Seiple, who couldn’t paddle away fast enough, so she pushed her surfboard between them. The boar bit the surfboard leaving teeth impressions on both sides.

And now this, a mongoose trapped at a Kauai harbor.  Near the water.  Planning to swim out for another surfer attack?

Move over sharks, you’ve got serious competition.

A shark would shred that boar.

OK, sure, for the sake of a year end animal argument, I’ll accept your prognostication at face value, given there are few shark-boar matchups available contributing helpful statistical data.  But I’m basing that mostly on the known fact that sharks spend significantly more time in the water where this bout would occur, given the OP.

But, let’s consider a hypothetical boar & mongoose alliance scenario.  Mongoose distracts shark, or sneaks up from behind? This would also allow all but the most overly curious surfers to make a clean getaway.

It's possible that the boar identifies as a shark in which case he deserves our encouragement and support in his fluid.  Or, perhaps he has a family to feed and wasn't able to bring home the bacon from his usual environment.  Who knows?

Oink can you help us out here?
