Latest info on COVID boosters in The NY Times today:
Three doses of a Covid vaccine — or even just two — are enough to protect most people from serious illness and death for a long time, the studies suggest. ... Although people over 65 or at high risk of illness may benefit from a fourth vaccine dose, it may be unnecessary for most people, he added. Federal health officials have said they are not planning to recommend fourth doses anytime soon. The Omicron variant can dodge antibodies — immune molecules that prevent the virus from infecting cells — produced after two doses of a Covid vaccine. But a third shot of the mRNA vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech or by Moderna prompts the body to make a much wider variety of antibodies, which would be difficult for any variant of the virus to evade, according to the most recent study, posted online on Tuesday. Now I’m not a doctor, but it sounds like the vaccine works. You have an even better performing solution you'd like to share Obie? Or perhaps you want to walk back that "The respirator MyManao has chosen would work better if he strapped it to his butt / a cartridge that is rated to stop covid ... doesn't exist so you respirator is useless for use over you mouth and nose" silliness in the interest of not contributing to more mask misinformation? Not planning on sticking around given the ongoing nonsense & mis/dis-information that has become so common here, but wish you both well in continuing to keep up the good fight against it - I'm sure the boulder will make it to the top next time!
Then again there is also this in the NYT about boosters:
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/20/healt...-data.html Quote:it left out the numbers for a huge portion of that population: 18- to 49-year-olds, the group least likely to benefit from extra shots, because the first two doses already left them well-protected. Let me also add they never did clinical trials on the booster. Yes vaccine works of course, but I'm just not all that hyped on boosters for everyone. Edit: Also, this is in your link HOTPE: Quote:Given the correlation between neutralizing antibody levels and protection from infection14,15, the reduced activity against Omicron in 3rd dose vaccine recipients is likely to explain why vaccinees remain particularly susceptible to infection by this variant. But yes, it protects from severe illness still of course.

My point about exhalation valves and the filters is unless you have the correct training you shouldn't be using them.
How do we know when you last changed your exhalation valve filter ? That's why you won't be able to access my house among other places like airports.

Spot on Obie ..
MM, railing against the world about masking and they survival + avoid every. Then: " For the exhaust port on my reusable 3M masks, I have both full face and half, I use a non-woven type cloth I've been using to make the disposable inserts some of the cloth masks I've worn have provided for. It works pretty good. Inside the mask there are two rubber studs sticking up, from the check valve assembly in the exhaust port, that I make holes in the cloth for, and it slips over those and stays in place without any other finagling. " LOL ...As if bra ?? Mahalo for your consistency Obie. Hubby says same, thanks and happy now he out of professional ( mask ) world. But still we use 7500 + p100 for work. The other is a joke in stores. |
