I know there was a foreign currency thread, but I can't find it.
Is there a local source to get euros, hopefully with a low transaction fee?

I've not heard of anything other than First Hawaiian Bank will let you buy foreign currency as long as you give them a couple of days to transfer the notes to your local branch. I've no idea if you need an account to do that and also suspect it's not the cheapest method.
If you are traveling then you might consider making sure you have a debit or credit card you can use at an overseas ATM - it's how I do it and is generally the cheapest option but it can be a pain if you can't arrive in a different country without cash.

It's easier and usually cheaper to get them from an ATM at the airport after you arrive.

Watch your banks fees on exchanging currency. Foreign Transaction Fees can run upwards of 3%. Some folks have been unpleasantly surprised!
