Who should manage public land that is sacred to Native Americans?

I have no ideas about how Mauna Kea was used in the past… .. I know nothing… So, sorry, Edge, would you like to try again?"

No, I think you’ve answered my question. Thank you.

Heynow Obie, are you competing with Edge for the 'PW bigot of the day' award, or what? It was back in the '80s, and I was a grunt, working with a group of archeologists, documenting their research. It was an amazing experience, and their insights invaluable.. but damn it was cold! I've done nights up there since, like sitting by a camera set up on the leeward side of a puu letting it do its long exposure thing.. but then I had down.. pants, jacket, hood, booties, and could lie there enraptured by the heavens.. back on that overnighter in the adze..I had sweat pants/shirts.. and froze.

Thought it was back when you hippies were polluting the water in Kalapana and you documented the demise of Kaimu.

Pretty sure you were a druggy back then.

PW bigot of the day award..

Yep, Obie, you're doing a bang up job of it.

So, Edge, you want to counter that? Or should we let Obie take the prize today? After all, you can try again tomorrow.

You took photos of peoples houses burning down and put them in a book with Frankie Stapleton. You profited from peoples misery Dorian !  I don't understand how that makes me a bigot !

This thread is in the running for the Punatic Fringe award for 2022

Sounds like the lunch table at the Pahoa Natch.

Anyone see any bright lights in the sky last night?

The roots of Hawaiian religion are found in the concept of Aloha.
No Aloha, no religious argument. No Aloha, no sacred mountain.
So where is the Aloha in throwing ashes into the eyes of humanity for... stargazing?
It is a contradiction. Particularly for a culture based upon stargazing and navigation.
The extremists seem willing to sacrifice Hawaiian religion and culture on the altar of politics.
Nothing new there. Politically and legally, it is a very savvy move.
But from the perspective of religion it is a Catch-22 that voids religion as an argument.
Humanity needs a very large telescope in the N Hemisphere to find another habitable planet.
Otherwise human extinction is a Probability-1 event at some point in the future.
That is a somewhat larger issue than the tender feelings of a loud and uncompromising minority with a political ax to grind.
They are within their rights to make their feelings known, but we are at the point that they are trampling the rights of others.
There is no future to be found in the past, unless the intent is to depopulate the Islands by 90% and live in isolation under someone's benign military protection.
Good luck with that. I suppose there is always a first time for anything.

Wow, now that's a new take on all this I had not heard. And, if true, it sounds awfully important. I wonder why the TMT guys haven't promoted that point themselves? I mean, if all of humanity's fate hangs in the balance.. like I said, wow! Would you care to elaborate?
