Starlink hardware arriving in a few days
#1
Anyone else preorder starlink and wait nearly two years for it to happen on big island?

I will post a review after some use…

If you have a lot of trees, be prepared to be disappointed. I have had Starlink in Ohio since last year.
I'm going to have to install a tall pole secured to my dock which projects 20 feet out into a lake to get a clear view of the sky.
I have been using it but I lose the signal for up to a minute at a time.

You can download the Starlink app to check your visibility and find the best location for the dish.
The app allows you to point your phone up toward the sky and it locates the satellites.

I'm glad it's working well for you I know you and your husband did a lot of land clearing.

I'm going to start hauling mine back and forth from Ohio. I spend 4 or 5 months there in the summer and 7 or 8 here in the winter.

My download speed was 300+ in Ohio when it worked. I'm hoping as they launch more satellites I will get better receptions there.
Right now it is blocked by 200+ year old oak trees that are protected.
I have an unlimited view of the sky here. Albizias are fair game.

One problem Starlink has encountered is that the satellites closer to the equator keep getting incinerated by solar radiation.

Wao,

Very similar to your speeds on a computer. Less so on iOS. But still way better than the hotspot we had (or coconut wireless, Aloha.net, wms, Exede, or the hotspots we have had since the eruption).

Gonna be streaming like normal people!

(The angled cable connection from antenna to router makes getting it through a hole into the house almost impossible, but the range of the router is incredible.)

Cheers,
Kirt

Starlink sells a feed thru for the cable. I bought a 150 ft cable, Ethernet adapter cable and an adapter to securely adapt it to a mast. With Ethernet it's even faster. They also sell a carrying case so you can take it on vacation.

The store is on the AP.
