Free/cheap containers??
#1
Shippers are giving containers away to reduce crowding at depots while many have resorted to blank sailings, Container xChange added.”

This, from an article on the current economic circumstances which show a downturn in shipping and thus consumer demand.

Puna residents might want to watch for cheap shipping containers coming up soon.  Lots of us can use one for extra storage, building, etc (if the price was right).

Has anybody seen any really free/cheap containers on the island yet?

They are $8000 now. $5000 two years ago. I don't see that changing anytime soon.

More fake inflation. Even though the dollar is strong and they are made overseas and there is a surplus, the price goes up in Hawaii...

I'm looking to buy a 40' HC reefer. Let me know if you come across one that could serve your purposes and mine!

I paid $12,000 for a new 40' HC last January including delivery.

it said $5000 of that was  "fuel sur-charge"...

Considering oil prices have gone back down that's some BS..

The greed epidemic is spreading...

I can buy a 40' one trip container for about $5000, in Seattle.

I was pondering something involving shipping a container, Matson seems to have ghosted me on the quote. I'll believe tikicarver's figure, and agree that's highway robbery.

No easy way around. Moving of almost any "stuff" from mainland to Hawaii is just cost prohibitive any which way you slice it right now. And I doubt we'll see them come down again.

There may be a bunch of shipping containers you could get cheaply in Arizona. :-)
Certainty will be the death of us.
