Deleted thread

Feel free to keep scrolling but there is already one hall monitor here. You are falling into the same trap that Tom has. That trap is thinking that this is your site and you somehow you have creative control.

For years Rob has made changes, deleted posts, deleted threads, and banned users. Why don't you simply leave Standards & Practices to him?

Other than name calling, I would like to flip the bird or deliver a raspberry. As those two do not translate well over the interwaves, name calling is where I'm at. Uncalled for? Clearly someone called for it. Irrelevant? Well, that's just like your opinion man.

And don't forget about the sticks and stones.

Er, thanks for your contribution to PW. No need to be humble, your lack of content is to be marveled at as is your ability to miss a point in one simple post. It's quite remarkable. Moreover, your propensity to contradict yourself is unmatched despite one or two posters coming quite close.

Oh my, a deflection? A pathetic attempt at a jedi mind trick!

Tom, you have become the annoying troll like person on the internet who singles out and attacks people with the ramblings of a nonsensical loon.

If you find a post to be incongruous to your preferred thought process, please ignore it. I doubt that many people are interested in your critiques.

I know the last few years have been challenging for you personally but the cracks are beginning to show. Get a hold of yourself man. Buy a hammock and practice breathing, okay?

Aaron - I hope you just learned a lesson - how not to react when being trolled.

Oh I have made an exception for you, in case the last few years weren't enough of a clue.

To think of the friendly and cordial Tom I met at the Naniloa that day, I often wonder if this PW iteration is an imposter. Or maybe I just caught you on a good day and you're actually an insufferable bore the rest of the time. Either way, nobody here is interested in being interrogated about the intent or content of their posts. Back to tilting at telescopes for you TK!

Aaron, you aren't the only one who has noticed a change over the past few years.

If you're correct, do you think there may be any perspective, or context?  Perhaps events that he's shared with us, or other considerations we can infer?

He lost his life partner after an extended illness.  His life's work is threatened on a regular basis by groups who have no problem challenging it with lies, misinformation, and by any other means necessary despite the ease with which they can discover the facts. If successful he may not be able to continue his work in astronomy in Hawaii.  If he can't work in Hawaii, presumably his first choice, then he's faced with limited opportunities elsewhere as there's not a lot of observatories around the world.  He has a troll with multiple names and personalities torturing him through the night on Punaweb, with a history of deleting his/her posts so another group of Punaweb members will argue the attacks are  all in his imagination.  Then, some of the same people argue, argue, argue with him and make accusations about his demeanor.

Challenging?  Changed? Do you think?

Oh lawdy, cry me a river.
No one else here comes on with such creepy regularity to pic nits as Mr.TomK.
Its like he is taking his day out on people here.

Tom, about starting an upbeat thread of your own ?

To address your post, HOTPE,

I noticed a change in him within a year of Pam's passing. Sadly, I don't think he has recovered from that yet. However, losing a loved one several years ago (she passed in December 2019) doesn't entitle someone to always get a free pass on their own potentially antagonizing or demeaning posts...especially if said person is initiating the antagonizing.

If there were multiple deleted posts by a troll who is 'torturing' Tom on a regular or irregular basis, I have not seen evidence of this. If someone deletes their own post, doesn't it get changed to 'this post has been deleted? Tom has advised others to ignore trolls....he should do the same. If I were Tom and I insisted on engaging with those troll posters, I would start taking screenshots of the troll posts for evidence.

Like many of the rest of us of a certain age still in the workforce...he is concerned about keeping his job. If I were Tom, I would be consulting my financial advisor about my situation and looking at other related job opportunities if retirement isn't an option. Perhaps he could teach some classes.

The above is just my opinion based on my own observations and life experience. It saddens me to see him on what appears to be a somewhat self-destructive path.
