New hospital, medical campus project in Puna moving forward
#1
"The hospital alone will employ more than 200 people, including 14 doctors, more than 50 nurses and physician assistants, at least two lab technicians, two rehabilitation specialists and four administrators, among others. The women’s health center, dental clinic and Dane Silva Hawaiian Healing Center will employ at least another 20 people."

This is very interesting. Truly a game changer if it happens.  Lazy question: Is 3/4 of a mile north of pahoa still LZ2 or is it LZ3?

LZ2 I think, but someone can correct me. In any case, it's better than not having a hospital at all.

It is said hospitals stimulate economic growth in the surrounding communities. Let's hope the county doesn't find a way to screw that up!

From the article:

"With the state grant and another $35,000 from Hawai‘i County, the foundation is starting with nearly $800,000. It is now reaching out to the Puna community and others, including state and national legislators who support the project, to come on board to help raise the rest of the necessary funding."

The total price for the hospital given is $160 million, so they have one half of one percent of the funds required. It took eight years and a change of governors to get $50 million from the state to expand Hilo Medical Center, and that was fast by Hawaii standards. I suggest that the Puna Community Medical Center Foundation go straight to the Feds, or better yet, to some of the private mega-donors such as the Gates and Bezos family foundations. We desperately need this for Puna, and hopefully the planners are exploring these options.

What is that, 1/4 mile's worth of Honolulu rail line?

total price … is $160 million, so they have one half of one percent of the funds required.

Then there are ongoing yearly operational expenses, which may or may not be covered by patient and insurance payments. They did mention everyone would be treated regardless of their ability to pay.

It would be a valuable asset to the Puna community, if they can find the funding necessary.

From tiny acorns do mighty oaks grow. I'm grateful for this fine group of Puna peeps propelling this project. Let's support them any way we can. https://www.pcmcf.com/who-we-are.html

It's overdue and I'm hopeful this happens in the not too distant future. Like, possibly before I expire?
