Residential Garbage Pick-up Service?

I like this idea. We would keep lined garbage cans inside the fenced area. Take out the bags and put them outside the fence the night before garbage pickup. Do we need to worry about feral cats or pigs ripping open the bags? On the mainland, raccoons were so clever, they could not only scavenge a plastic bag, they could also pop open most metal or plastic garbage cans, until I spring-loaded the cover.

Or how about driving your trash to the transfer station and not putting that obligation onto someone else?
Certainty will be the death of us.

Aloha Kalianna. Courtney and Stetson (HWM) absolutely want that obligation. It's how they make a living. It's $36 per month for the service.

Black Akita, Courtney will give you a time to have your bags out, on whatever day they come to Nanawale.  I would just set a weekly alarm for 15 minutes prior and put them out then if possible.  Earliest, the morning of.  Definitely not the night before.  Cats, pigs, dogs, mongoose, morons, etc will all conspire to spread your rubbish everywhere.  It's a great service.  You won't ever look back.
I wish you all the best.

Ainaloa is awful close to the Pahoa transfer station. Or Keaau, if you're on your way to Hilo. Personally I like the excuse to get out, check out the reuse center, hit some yard sales...

If you are going to pay someone though, $35 a month for weekly in Puna sounds like a ridiculously good deal.

If you don't pay, I think they stop your service.  I must confess that I have forgotten the joys of The Keaau Macys.  Lady Tang hasn't complained about the lost shopping opportunities but she has thanked me that she no longer has to put rubbish in her car.  Spoiled fish!
I wish you all the best.

HWM Prices are higher than expected.

Puna District $35/month
Lower Puna District (LPD) $45/month

LPD includes Leilani Estates, Pahoa, Nanawale Estates, and Hawaiian Beaches. I'm telling the oldest daughter in the house to bring her trash to the nearest transfer station. The dog poop is going to stink up the car, as most plastic bags are gas permeable. Advice to Gen X'er: buy a can of Lysol and fumigate the car.

This inflation garbage has to stop!

I just checked. We must be grandfathered in at the old rate. At $45, I might just go back to doing my own.

It sounds like you have built in rubbish service there already so that's hard to beat. We did our own for decades. We may do it again. You don't marry HWM. It's just a month to month agreement. Cancel anytime.
I wish you all the best.
