Thanks Wahine!
I listened to Alice’s Restaurant every Thanksgiving in the late sixties on my local FM underground music station.  Good times.

And today, somewhat like in the song, there will be a pile of garbage outside the locked gates of the Pahoa transfer station.
And another similarity to Arlo’s story, Punaweb has our own Obie, although not an officer of the law keeping America safe from those who litter.

I’ll keep an eye out for the flock of wild turkeys that roam the streets of Volcano today.  Survivors!  Hope!

Thank you! Thanksgiving is not a holiday I grew up with, but I appreciate what a special day it is in the US. I hope everyone enjoyed the day with family and friends.

I haven't listened to Alice's Restaurant for years, so I will do that right after this post! The problem with listening to Arlo Guthrie is I then have to listen to all his other songs, especially "The Motorcycle Song" and "Coming into Los Angeles".

Did you see any turkeys?

I googled Officer Obie. He and Arlo remained friends until Obie passed in 1994.

Those other two songs you mentioned are my other favorites. Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving, and glad you found your french bread.

Interesting to note that the woman who inspired Arlo's Alice's Restaurant, Alice Brock, just passed away on November 20, 2024.

Yes. I saw that also and forgot to mention it. I found it heartwarming that Alice and Arlo also remained friends until her passing.

The problem is there's a follow-up to the Motorcycle song and the significance of the pickle.

I didn't like the first video, but that's just me. I'm not a fan of rap, and I like only a few rap songs. I loved the second video and had no idea Guthrie played Hawaiian music.

As for wild turkeys, when I first arrived here, I had no idea wild turkeys were a thing, but on a trip from the Kona side back to Hilo on the old Saddle road, I had to slow down because these weird creatures were running from left to right across the road. I had no idea what they were, but I drove a bit closer, and the last few ran across the road. My first impression was that they were ostriches, but they looked a bit too small for that. They were bigger than any other bird I'd seen on the Big Island.

I looked it up a few days later (pre-google days) and discovered I'd seen wild turkeys for the first time. It was certainly different from the UK!
