I love it.. another Saturday eve at the good ol' PW Bar and Grill and the local wannabe comes in right on cue looking under every table, in every corner, for any suspicious charlatans, idiots, and scam artists that might be lurking.. ready to pounce on all the unsuspecting PWers, who themselves are distracted with the finer points of keeping it Hawaii, if they should ever utter an unflattering word..
And what do we get.. a frickin' puffed up cock crowing.. the very definition of sound.. as if he's the second coming of Christ almighty.. (I mean, come on, he does add an extra L to traveling so as to be sure everyone knows he's a member of the Double L club, but still he's just an old man in a cape)
Seriously Tom, the very definition? That's the sorta phase a wannabe uses when they are pretending to know.. or giving lectures to school children. So which is it? Are you pretending or do you think we're children?
Now, about those vibes.. not to suggest you sport dreadlocks, or could ever play a backbeat.. but still those vibes dude.. are you sure you got it right? I mean, the brother only said.. vibrations are vibrations before they are.. and no, instead of letting that one go by you gotta dawn the cape and pounce!
Well, bravo! You da man, bro. Though still just an old geezer in a tinfoil hat and a Walmart cape.. who never heard the Black Hole Blues
I just pointed out the difference between sound and light because you seemed confused between the two, and are now talking about vibes. I note you haven't responded to my point; instead, you've launched a personal attack once again.
And yes, there is "speed of sound" in space because space is not a pure vacuum. It's why you see shocks in nebulae, both C- and J-type shocks. These are caused by interactions between atoms, ions, and molecules, but not by light. Physical particles rip electrons off their atoms and molecules, which leads to light being emitted, not by vibrations but by the change in the atoms' energy state. Shocks happen because of a mechanical process that propagates faster than the local speed of sound. It's why planes that travel faster than the speed of sound make a sonic boom. Please tell us the last time light caused a shock wave - I suggest not referring to Cherenkov radiation as that's not a process that happens in space.

Punatang - You start with disdain, you accuse, you post a hyper-partisan link about national politics, which actually speaks to my point about how sources of information "pour gas on every spark", and you try to steer a genuine conversation between two people who were doing their level best to actually see each other, off into the abyss.
Um, that's quite the reaction to an article about how "bothsidesism does a serious disservice, allowing for the ventilation of lies, hate speech and conspiracy theories, on the spurious ground they represent another, equally valid, side of the story." (which is what you often share and appear to be again justifying - perhaps a name change makes sense ;) Obviously Punaweb is a public message board, not a private chat between individuals (although that is available here now as well), and I think randomq had made his/her point that when NASA says the earth is round, but the crazy uncle insists the earth is flat (and immigrants need to be illegally deported, and massive tariff taxes are actually good because everyone who still works really wants to mine coal and rare earth minerals instead, and accessible healthcare is for wussies, and on and on) there reaches a point where "some things can't be overlooked" and uncle lolo is left out in the cold (of space, apparently) because of bad vibes. As young adults are told about media consumption - need to learn to be a filter, not a sponge just soaking up everything impartially without critical thought.
Punatang - we are both going to attend the May 1 event so that we can meet some folks
Hopefully that goes well for you - if my other obligations wrap up in time, I'll try to swing by and keep an eye out for the signs, otherwise perhaps you can share a front line report. Regardless, may you find good vibes and solidarity with the workers of the world crowd!
You guys are really funny. Do you seriously think standing on a street corner with signs is going to do anything ?
All the people driving by and honking their horns and giving you thumbs up, think just like you.
You need to get the party leaders to make some changes instead of fitting it.
The majority who elected Trump are sick and tired of crap like this. They have basically made shoplifting legal in California.
Opening the border to anyone who wants to cross doesn't go anymore either.
I'll check back with you in 4 years but you will still probably be wringing your hands and crying.

since when is the majority less than %50?
It works like this.. the numbers of voters are far and away less than the number of register voters.. and that is far less than the number of citizens. As such the actual vote does not reflect the wishes of the whole, but rather the more limited views of those that actually vote. So, when we say that most people don't agree with the winner of the majority of votes, we're talking about the citizenry not the electorate. And it's the citizenry most polls reflect.. unless they specifically focus on actual voters.
Most people, looking at the polls, don't agree with the course we're taking. Here on the Big Island, where the numbers are even more bent towards an unfavorable opinion of the current trends, they are an overwhelming majority.

Aside from this being yet more Repub drivel, wouldn't this be a matter for the Californians to sort out? Or is this one of those we should claim a primary residence in Hawaii (for the sweet, sweet Punaweb benefits of course) but vote in California type situations?
Edge - It’s jobs for East Hawai’i! And the pay is good at $40 an hour (see post a few pages back). Now if only we can get directions to the signup tent
Well the nice thing in particular about May Day events is that if one side doesn't uphold their part of the agreement, you're surrounded by people with a focus on gathering a list of demands, forming a union, collectively bargaining, and as needed, organizing a picket and going on strike. Protest the protest for better protesting conditions! Protest-ception!
Do keep an eye out though as those paid protestors, fresh off their anti-tariff events, may not fit in with the local Hawaii climate (probably coming in through the open southern border)
Like your photo ironyak!
It’s even a twofer- illegal immigrants AND paid protesters. Not to mention taking the job of paid protester from Hawaiian workers too?

lol, thx - just a two minute MS Paint job on my way out the door. Evidence I guess that humans can still compete in the quick creation of low-quality custom images, even without consuming a hillside of coal and a pond's worth of water, as long as people choose to support human creators and affordable access to solar panels.
(Narrator Morgan Freeman: They, in fact, did not, so the people gathered from Honolulu to LA to the Hilo Bayfront, and with the allied penguins, marched.)
For Durian Fiend - at the risk of invoking the wrath of the old gods that smite posts, can I ask how you see the local Hawaii protests influencing larger policies? While some people think it's all about news coverage (nice but not necessary IMO), or changing minds on the "other side" (if after several decades you haven't figured out the importance of worker rights, affordable healthcare, climate action, local school funding, etc, why would anyone expect a protest to finally enlighten you?), I have a different view more from the inside, but I'm always interested in how people view the impact of protest movements. Thanks!

Yes. But, if you are asking will standing on a corner and yelling for the removal of a sitting president will get them removed, obviously, no.
We, those of us who were in the streets active against the Vietnam war, we didn't stop it. And omg we mobilized a lot of people, especially for the population at the time. But did we stop the war? No, Ho Chi Minh did.
But we made the news, we rubbed America's face in their BS war. We changed the hearts and minds of people. And yeah, we now live in a totalitarian regime, so if we don't speak up about it we'll be, in essence, bending over backwards to say go ahead..
