Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Hawaii
#41
The workers are on their feet for 11 hours a day, said Mr. Davis, who pays them $30 an hour.

But..but...but... How can this be? The narrative is that illegals work for very low wages?

"Federal agents arrested 50 people this week on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii island for violating immigration laws due to convictions for crimes including murder, domestic violence and drug possession..."

"...Officials said that among those arrested was a Vietnamese national convicted of second-degree murder and a Mexican national convicted of drunken driving in 2020 and 2015 and driving without a license in 2011 and 2020. Information on where their crimes occurred was not immediately released Thursday.
Additional criminal convictions of those “arrested or targeted” include domestic violence, car theft, murder, theft, probation violations, drug possession and gun crimes, according to ICE officials. The states where the criminal convictions occurred and details of the crimes were not released Thursday..."

I keep hearing those that love to fondle guns go on about their sacred rights..

Edited.
If the subject of second amendment rights relates to something that occurred in Puna or Hawaii, yes.
Otherwise, no.

Archive link for that NY Times article - full story and pictures. This paragraph also stood out to me.
There are no immigration lawyers practicing on the island, and immigrants who have court hearings must fly to Honolulu, where immigration proceedings are held. Missing a hearing can result in a deportation order from a judge, making the immigrants targets for enforcement.

leilanidude - Is it not more cruel to have sent your child alone, across the border to begin with?
Such a strange assumption and equivocation... Obviously, there are many reasons children could end up in the immigration system alone - including separation, being orphaned, trafficking, etc... Regardless of the cause, we hopefully have higher standards of treatment and that always-demanding U.S. Constitution says no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law. Legal rights - they're not just for you, but for everyone.

MM - how it is critical for them to own guns so as to protect us from a tyrannical government..
But is the government tyrannical really if it's hurting the people they want it to? And the government ops look so tacticool when they storm the lanais in Kona with the belts, and the vests, and the boots... OMG the boots! So shiny and lickable...

How do they do this without REAL ID?

From leilanidude’s link above, HTH noted one person was arrested for second degree murder, then the story later stated other additional accusations included murder…
Was there more than one charged with murder? One might also wonder why someone with a questionable immigration status and a murder arrest was walking free?  Is there more to the story?

Another was accused of drunken driving.  That’s two out of 50 listed with specific crimes. Then there’s some semi generic crimes noted, less frightening than MURDER (mentioned twice), but I’d be curious what the other 48 were charged with.  Perhaps, some weren’t charged with anything (yet) but unlike the Maui teachers (the other half of the article) they haven’t been released to tell their side of the story?

It’s almost as if law enforcement and the justice system function without the left hand knowing what the right hand is doing?  And in a way that charges, real or not, can morph into an actual crime?

ACLU calling on Hawaii county officials to not participate and facilitate ICE raids on island. Looks like most of them are on board and have their own concerns about the feds' unconstitutional and overreaching actions. Good to have some local reps standing up for the rights of all persons.

https://bigislandnow.com/2025/06/07/aclu...forcement/
"The American Civil Liberties Union of Hawai‘i is asking county leaders in the state to commit to not helping the federal government in immigration enforcement.

In a letter to Hawai‘i County’s Mayor Kimo Alameda, Police Chief Ben Moszkowicz, County Chair Holeka Inaba and council members, the nonprofit asks them specifically to not signing any 287(g) agreements with any entities within the Department of Homeland Security.

The letter all asks them to prevent state resources, such as personnel or facilities, from being used for immigration enforcement under any other agreements, like memoranda of understanding, also known as MOUs.

Collaborating with federal immigration efforts is not the domain of the state or counties, the letter states. The ACLU of Hawaiʻi is investigating concerns about how Immigration and Customs Enforcement warrants are executed, potential use of excessive force, and other violations of law." (more at link)

Seems these immigration issues just won't quit.. I know, I know, in Ohio it's different.. they like their boots shiny.. unlike us flip floppers..

And now here's a story that suggest it's all just a made up bunch of go out and arrest people because an orange moron will be unhappy if you don't..

https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4322155/posts

With its most salient point being they don't have lists, they don't care about a person's rights. The order is just numbers.. arrest enough to make a fat guy in Washington happy or else.. which basically means the farms in Kona are ripe for the picking so why not? Seriously, it's away from prying eyes.. and nobody is going to enforce the real law.. so why not?

And just think.. they will be in all our "substandard" subs as soon as they deplete Kona's coffee farms. It's a no-brainer.. as long as they must meet those numbers.. strike where the people are too uneducated, too poor, to fight back.. and god knows we got 'em here..

I can't wait to hear the good ol' well they were driving a jacked up truck excuse...

They better be careful in my neighborhood. Their cars will be gone before the raid is over. Never mind all the rednecks and pukas.

Manao - here's a story that suggest it's all just a made up bunch of go out and arrest people
Arbitrary quota systems - where the rules are made up and evidence don't matter (much like for the commentators at that source - wowza, can feel the A.M. talk radio and facebook memes just oozing from the synapses)

kalakoa - ICE is "supposed to" have arrest warrants. They don't.
Hawaii State Teacher Association (HSTA) is offering Rights trainings in conjunction with the ACLU so educators know what warrants are required.
https://www.hsta.org/news/recent-stories...forcement/
"...“If ICE shows up at schools, you have no obligation to comply with them if they do not have a judicial warrant, especially in private locations, which schools should be careful to mark.”

Private locations include classrooms, while public areas would be the school entrance area and the front office, Lee said.

To access school facilities or records, federal agents must present a judicial warrant, not just an administrative warrant, he added. To enter private property, the feds must show a judicial warrant that is signed by a judge and specifies the name of someone or precise address, Lee explained.

“What we’re seeing is sometimes ICE enforcement officers will try to use an administrative warrant or a deportation order, which is not a judicial warrant and which does not allow access to private locations legally,” he said." (more at link, including the full video training)

randomq - They better be careful in my neighborhood.
lol - can see ICE attempting a raid in the Acres - "we'd go in and round them up mein commandant, but there's not really any roads..."
