Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids in Hawaii
https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2025/07/06...detainees/

" The Federal Detention Center (FDC) in Honolulu is set to take in more immigrant detainees after additional funding was approved for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

It’s unclear how many more migrant detainees will be sent to the facility and some wonder why they’d be flown to the islands from the continent in the first place.

“If there’s an actual policy reason for it that makes sense, that would be one thing,” said immigration lawyer Kevin Block..."

Very little that the current administration does makes sense.

And Medicaid recipients targeted for being cut from the system will work in fields to keep their benefits? Yeah, RIGHT!

Manao - literally, they want them dead ... Just think of the housing possibilities.. once a third of Puna is eliminated folks still here will have the pick of 'em all..
leilanidude - We won't need that extra road out or have to deal with the traffic anymore. Sounds like a win for the remaining 2/3.

We're already in the "finding the upside to mass murder" phase, which seems to be all the rage in those circles. Floridians seem to have a thing about advocating for genocide...

In reply to a post that got Thanosed, that suggested everyone should shut their mouth about politics, go along to get along, and just listen to the music, that's actually the exact wrong response to these challenges as shown by history ("Do not obey in advance.", "Be wary of paramilitaries.", "Be alert to the use of the words extremism and terrorism.", "Be as courageous as you can."). It's not normal for thugs in masks and camo to be rounding up workers or for people to be advocating for the death of their neighbors - maybe important to make that clear while still possible.

But why listen to me (or yet more Ozzy) when you can hear it live and in color from Cabaret, opening at the Hilo Palace Theater on July 18th and running for two weekends. Based on the 1939 book, Goodbye to Berlin, it's a timeless response to the question - "It's only politics, and what's that got to do with us?"

Clearly, we will need to add moats and import a few dozen alligators.

And I am NOT being sarcastic. Well, maybe .05% sarcastic.

Nope, never even heard of it - do tell me more, I'm SO interested in what you have to say on the matter! (see how sarcasm actually works?) Or you could add the customary /s if you want to be sure that your comments aren't seen as just another example of hiding far-right extremism behind claims of humor and sarcasm, which is a known pattern some of y'all like to do again, and again, and again, and again, and so forth.

I'd say some were just trying to weasel out from their statements, but don't want to incur the wrath of the municipal mustelidae mob, so will turn to instead observing how some people always chicken out (in a huli-huli style for local moa of course).

Meanwhile, ACLU continues to try and uncover the role of county police across Hawaii in their dealings with ICE.

"...Some Hawaii County residents and the American Civil Liberties Union of Hawaii, however, want to know whether Big Island police and officers on other islands have been assisting federal agents with immigration enforcement — a subject that could come up during today’s meeting.

“In light of the recent passage of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ that allocates substantial resources into immigration enforcement along with the dramatic increase in immigration arrests in Hawaii, the ACLU of Hawaii submitted public records requests to all county police departments regarding any current agreements with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including its Homeland Security Investigations and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agencies, in their immigration enforcement efforts in the state,” the ACLU of Hawaii stated in a July 3 press release.

“It is vitally important that the community know if and how local resources are used to promote federal immigration goals,” said Emily Hillis, ACLU of Hawaii’s senior staff attorney. “Police collaboration with immigration enforcement not only diverts limited resources away from local law enforcement priorities, but it undermines public trust, ultimately making our communities less safe.”

ACLU of Hawaii spokesman Sergio Alcubilla said HPD’s reply “was just an acknowledgment and that they will respond to our request by July 25.”

In addition, numerous individuals have provided the Tribune-Herald with their written testimony asking the Police Commission to bar local police from assisting the federal government in immigration enforcement raids." (more at link)

ICE will begin working at the gates of Kaneohe Marine Base, to prevent unauthorized entry by foreigners? If a highly secure military installation, with guards at the entrance can’t properly check ID’s, then what are they doing at the gate? It’s a pilot program, with a stated purpose that seems unnecessary, but sure, nothing unusual going on here.

WINDWARD OAHU, Hawaii (Island News) -- In a new pilot program with the Marine Corps and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ICE agents will be at the gates of Marine Corps Base Hawaii to prevent unauthorized entry from foreign nationals.

ICE agents will guard entry points with Marine gate personnel but they will not be actively patrolling the inside of the base, according to Military.com. In this pilot program, military and law enforcement roles will continue to follow federal guidelines and remain "clearly delineated."

Is it the fishing? Cultural significance? Visual beauty? Cliff diving? Swimming? Green Sand?

Or...?
