Thanks for the suggestion kalianna. Though I had a hard time with your link.. seems PW's interface truncated your URL. But I did welcome the encouragement to look at the approaching system on the GOES-West feed. And then I got to wondering.. besides the impressive spread of clouds, how much of them are bearing moisture? So went from visible.. or the GeoColor band I like.. to the Water Vapor - Lower band (using the popup menu from that button in the upper left of the browser) in the hopes of being able to appreciate just how widely spread is this system. In other words, how close does it have to get to actually give us a good drenching?

And here's my attempted to get the URL right..

https://www.star.nesdis.noaa.gov/GOES/sector_band.php?sat=G18§or=tpw&band=10&length=48&dim=1

Of course, if this gets to the page and it's working, it can be changed back to visible with that same menu..

MM, thanks for the corrected link and explaining what the (depressing) water vapor map is for.  Not sure why the whole link isnʻt included.  Youʻll need to copy and paste it into your browser.

Durgin:
“Kiko continues to be impressive at 12:30pm today, Saturday. It's looking a lot like a CAT4 once again. The storm is continuing to move more northerly reinforcing the idea that it will miss us by a wide margin.

Kiko is moving into a region of progressively drier air and will soon encounter high shear from the southwest which will decouple the storm. When that happens the lower portion of Kiko, which contains a lot of moisture, will be pushed east by the trade flow. If this happens before the storm reaches 20N we could get a good soaking. If it doesn't fall apart until it's farther north, we could be left with mostly just humid weather.”

It sure looks like the latter is more likely. ☹️

Windy is pretty fun to watch. Has modes for wind, rainfall, SO2, etc.

First band of clouds are now approaching. Itʻs now visible to GOES West satellite, offering a good closeup.

So did Puna survive Kiko?

I'm curious, what, pray tell, does Yak have to feel silly about? Seriously Tom, what?

The two images are no longer available in that post as far as I can tell and  "While the TOMK model seems to overly weigh the impact of the local water temperatures, some of these other more nuanced models present some interesting possibilities to be aware of.|"

I never posted a model, and what were the interesting possibilities?

Then:

I don't know which single image ironyak is referring to, and neither of the two had all the info needed, which I pointed out earlier.
