Kilauea Eruption 12/23/24

Any chance to get an image of that leaflet/link to its info before it gets recycled? Always interested to hear what the current arguments are for land back / sovereignty. Thanks!

...some in warrior regalia...

Not sure why you would both leave that very pertinent part out when making your comments? Don't you think that foreign visitors could get a little concerned about that?

Only when the Reds are complaining about leafletting in a Blue state. Otherwise it's OK.

Concerned about seeing Hawaiian people wearing traditional Hawaiian capes and fancy hats while in Hawaii? Sounds more like a free cultural enrichment activity? Maybe grab a leaflet and take a selfie instead of being immediately fearful of the natives that don't look like you? Gives you a story to share while in the totally authentic luau buffet line planning tomorrow's trip to see similar regalia at the Lyman Museum or Place of Refuge.

Yep.  Here it is.  Side note. I partied with the guys from Cheap Trick when their road manager married the sister of my girlfriend at the time.  No TV’s were thrown out the window.  They did play their as yet unreleased follow-up to Dream Police at the party. Six times.  My girlfriend’s brother tried to change the album (or was it CD?) to Bob Marley.  He nearly got tossed out the window.

More so than seeing doofuses prancing about with open carry AR15s?  Which is an actual danger? Which some inexplicably want allowed in Hawaii?

That comes later when your National Guard gets federalized.

A little? Oh my goodness.. I imagine they'd be grabbing their selfie sticks right quick.

Yeah. Afterwards I wished I had taken a picture. Their attire looked historically accurate to this haole, and was well made. They put some research and effort into it.

It’s going, erupting sideways right now.
Spectacular!

12:20 PM:
Was shooting double fountains 500-1000 feet high when I first posted this, still going 500-1000 feet.  Difficult to estimate because the lava has built up so high above the crater floor near the back of the crater wall.

From USGS: Episode 38 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption began at 8:45 a.m. HST on December 6 with steeping increasing tremor and decreasing tilt. Sustained lava fountains approximately 50-100 feet (15-30 meters) in height are currently erupting from the north vent. Fountain heights are increasing rapidly and are coming from both the left and right vents within the north cone.
