elepiao,
The article you linked quoted Mazie as saying: “Families are going hungry, federal workers are missing paychecks, & Americans are being stranded in airports. This chaos is Republicans’ making,” Hirono bizarrely declared on Wednesday. “They insisted on spiking health care costs instead of prioritizing affordability & now Americans are paying the price. Literally.” SNAP was suspended, people in Puna had no $ for food. Federal workers in Hawaii did not receive paychecks. Airports, including Honolulu, cancelled 2000 flights a day. Health care premiums for Hawaii residents are going up 50-200%. Those are all demonstrable facts. What part do you find crazy?

Hotpe: you missed a couple important parts in the article:
“Senator Hirono voted 15 times against reopening the government, which includes SNAP funding and pay for air traffic controllers,” the Senate Republicans’ official X account responded, laying out the facts. “She spent the last six weeks forcing the pain of a shutdown onto the American people, all to protest the failure of Democrat policies she voted for — inexcusable,” Senate Republicans added. Hawaii unrelated content removed On Monday night, Senate Democrats finally passed a CR to reopen the government.

Hawaii unrelated edited
But that's OK because it wasn't part of the "clean" continuing resolution?

Obviously all of this nonsense is just a deflection from the real issue of cutting off ACA subsidies. Good luck with that fellas! Edited am glad there were enough defectors to reopen.

Edited are evil in withholding snap for the poor here and the rest of the country, period.

So instead of spending hundreds of millions creating good will around the world, or even billions on food security and healthcare right here in Hawaii, we'll just give it to billionaires in tax cuts. And anyone that tries to oppose that or force some kind of negotiation is in the wrong. Your boot-licking logic is impeccable. You can clutch to those examples as Hawaii's economy is gutted.

Here’s a link from Mazie Hirono that provides an example of how much healthcare costs will increases for working people in Hawaii. If you want to talk about crazy, crazy is making healthcare unaffordable for many. Crazy is blaming Mazie Hirono for trying to prevent this travesty.
“Give a man a fish and someone with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about people getting a free fish. Teach a man to fish and the person with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about that too.”

Hawaii is part of the US and global economy. It seems disingenuous to elide "unrelated" content.

From the link that was posted :
"Watching Mazie Hirono present this chart is like watching someone blame the thermometer for the fever while hiding the bonfire in the next room. She announces a 484 percent jump as if she has uncovered a Republican plot, when the truth is sitting right in front of her with its hand raised like an ignored student. The only reason that couple in Hawaii sees a spike is because Democrats engineered temporary enhanced subsidies to vanish on schedule. Nothing mystical. Nothing sudden. Nothing caused by the bill to keep the government open. The statute they wrote makes the subsidy disappear, which means the part taxpayers were covering no longer gets covered. The premium itself stays the premium. Her own party’s design is the sole reason the math changes. She claims the numbers speak for themselves. They do. They say the ACA never solved the underlying costs so Democrats papered over them with short term subsidy expansions and then acted shocked when the clock they set finally hit zero. They hid the true price of their own system so thoroughly that now they pretend the reveal is someone else’s doing. Republicans did not create a crisis. The crisis is baked directly into the ACA architecture and the layered subsidies that were always scheduled to expire. If she wants to know who created the 484 percent jump she is shouting about, she only needs to reread her own votes." |
