State avoids paying for SNAP - creates more bureaucracy

Oh, so just like the Tax ~unrelated to Puna~ of 2017 that ~unrelated to Puna~ renewed, while never solving the underlying costs?  Your willful and selective ignorance is tiring, ~unrelated to Puna~.

Democrats engineered temporary enhanced subsidies to vanish on schedule

Similar provisions exist in the Big Ugly Bill -- breaks expire just after the 2028 elections.

From the link that was posted :
"Watching Mazie Hirono present this chart is like watching someone blame the thermometer

For some reason conservative editorial outlets have chosen to swarm around every action or comment by Hawaii senator Mazie Hirono like a school of uneducated piranhas in a low budget 1950’s Amazon jungle movie, the hero forced to jump into the river to escape natives shooting poison blow darts.

But like that hero, she safely swims away to post again, perseveres and continues to write facts on TwitterX.  The replies to her generally parrot articles by Brietbart etc with their misinformation, or lies by omission, in this case failing to mention the 20+ times people in Puna have been promised “concepts” of a much better health care plan “in two weeks”.  Two weeks that have never come once, unless you consider nothing to replace the ACA as a plan.

I give Hirono credit for her continuous efforts.  You should read her posts on TwitterX and the constant stream of idiotic replies sometime, and you might too.

Contrast this with Hawaii Senator Brian Schatz on TwitterX, who has replies to his comments that are overwhelmingly intelligent and insightful.  Why?  He’s not constantly attacked by conservative media, so their piranhas barely know he exists.  Why does conservative media attack our Hawaii woman senator of Asian descent, but not our white male senator?  Their voting records are nearly identical.  The reasons they provide for why they voted for or against legislation is almost the same.  What’s the difference to conservative writers and readers?  Schatz’s name is just as conducive to childish 4th grade playground nicknames, with just as little effort involved.

The outright lies and exaggerations from her, are the reason. Schatz hasn't done quite so much of that.

Jump to her Facebook page where she posted an obvious lie about an employed couple making $98k a year who are seeing their insurance premium go up by 454%. That is simply not true. Anyone working more than 19 hours a week, gets free individual health care coverage.

Unless they’re self employed or a number of other situations.  Not a great way to encourage pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, innovation, and becoming a future employer by expanding your business - - with even less money than you previously had to carry out your plans.  But maybe you can go to work for one of the billionaires who took your healthcare money for another tax break.  You could pack boxes, until a robot replaces you.

I’m going to guess her numbers came from the actual example of a constituent in Hawaii, with real costs, or she would have just pulled numbers out of thin air and said healthcare now costs trillions of dollars for every resident of Hawaii. Like others do on a regular basis.

That seemed like a very large increase. I did a thorough search and found no other reference to a price hike that steep. Predictions are, on average, raises of 10-12%. I think she needs to reference facts rather than quoting extremes.

Google says 114% average rise for current ACA subscribers with some increases up to 300%. That's nationally.

The real question is why take away healthcare money, and give it to people who already have billions of fish?  How does it affect our neighbors in Puna to take fish from them, when the other fish they have to buy for dinner cost more due to tariffs and inflation?  Whose lifestyle is changed more with a few less fish, a guy in Pahoa driving to Hilo every morning for work, or Jeff Bezos on his yacht watching his rocket launch from Cape Canaveral?

“Give a man a fish and someone with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about people getting a free fish. Teach a man to fish and the person with a thousand fishes is going to bitch about that too.”

I donʻt disagree with your point of view but those are rhetorical questions that will just drive you crazy. Iʻd like to hear from people who have ACA insurance to hear in real numbers how this is affecting them for 2026. Anybody?

Two things happening at the same time.

Average premium increase for 2026 is estimated at 26%.

Loss of subsidies is causing premiums to double or triple.
