Oh, if only you'd practice what you preach.
Count the number of posts in a day.. you can't shut up for an hour.
And yes.. you itch national politics.. you scream national politics, and you stuff it into every post you can.. and should stop.
Seriously Jules.. get a mirror.

Come to think of it, you’ve become a bore. Maybe you can get someone else to chase your string, but I find it’s gotten old, and quite stale. Pilau brah.

Three monikers. Period. All changed with logical reasons.. without your nonsense insinuations of nefarious intent.
And all this time your head stays firmly where the sun don't shine. You still lie, just like you lie about your accomplishments.. which is silly when one considers real astronomers don't need to stuff their CV full of third forth and fifth authorships.
But hey.. you've never had an once of humility.. no ability to perceive how silly you are, no idea of your own behavior.. just an ego strutting around bullying everyone you set your attention upon. And as I said, you've run off dozens of people here. I have been at dinner parties where your name is tossed around as the reason folks don't come here no more.. way more than once.. by all kinds of people. Lower Puna, Upper Puna, Hilo.. teachers, scientists, doctors, artists, musicians, farmers, your name gets tossed around plenty. And it's always the same ol' "I gave up because I got tired of Tom"
But hey, I'm told folks should put up with you because you're the spitting image of what our neighbors in Puna are like. So.. you run people off.. and I suppose that's why Puna won't grow up. Why the gov doesn't invest here.. why the Hawaiians hate your telescopes. But whenever you tell it.. it's always someone else's fault. The same ol' no humility, but plenty distain..
You know what? I don't believe a word you posted. Did you really have dinner parties where you discussed me? That's disturbing. Am I so important to your community that I get discussed? To be honest, just making that claim comes across as creepy.

Seriously, do you think people believe what you posted? I also ask about your ability and qualifications to make claims about who is or is not a real astronomer. I don't think you have any qualifications to make that claim. It's just something you made up.

The thing about no national issues here on PW…
I used to think it was silly, at least create a national forum, and let them that want to go on about it have their space, and those that don’t stay away from that particular forum. But as time has gone by, and national issue become so divisive, so toxic, it becomes more and more a pleasure that PW isn’t infected with that stuff. And, for some, myself included, the sanitary that PW offers us to cleanse ourselves of that toxicity is priceless.
Some, especially our newbies, haven’t yet found that pricelessness. We’re all assaulted by that toxic crap. It infects all sorts of spaces, and yet many think it is just a part of who they are, of the world they live in. While others crave a space without it. I, for one, have not watched tv news in over a year in an effort to rid myself of the toxins. I started with national stuff, but can’t even stomach the local talking heads anymore. And more recently I gave up on the lions share of the written version, and god knows I don’t watch YouTube vids. I have no interest, and find my life, my days, my nights, my dreams, all the more better for it.
Not to say I don’t keep track of headlines, and occasionally dip into the meat of a matter. But in all honesty when I do I find the safe haven of a world without it to be healing from the toxic exposure.
So now, I get it, and thank Rob for his perseverance in this matter, and would ask those that think I’m full of shit to at least try and grok my point of view, and take your national interests to website forums that thrive on it, not here. And hey, if your reaction to this post is to call me names, consider the harm your attitude is doing to you, your days, nights, and dreams.
Mahalo.

Ignorance is Bliss, maybe even Ignorance is Strength? ;)
While I agree that the purely political and strictly national debates can be unproductive ragebait, we in Hawai'i are not immune from national politics as you yourself have pointed out repeatedly. ~25% of Hawaii's Budget is federal dollars and many of the issues confronting Punatics on a daily basis are dependent on federal funds and activities.
Insufficient SNAP funds to feed your family? That's national politics. Trying to get discounts on veggies via Da Bux? That's a federal USDA program, same as how kids get school free/reduced breakfasts & lunches, and take home boxes, and summer food programs. Can't afford to go to Hilo Benioff due to heathcare cuts to ACA / Medicaid / Medicare - national politics. Lumber too expensive to build a jungle shack, and mortgage rates too high to buy any of those 20 available HPP houses - national politics via tariffs and The Fed. Funding for Pohoiki Road repairs and emergency alternate routes - national politics again over FEMA funding. And so forth (EPA and PGV pollutants, fishing in Pacific Refuges, etc, etc). Outside of the hyperlocal backyard issues (trees, chickens, lost dogs, yardsales, etc), the causes of, and solutions to, most problems in Puna are tied to national politics and understanding this helps guide people on how to approach the issues, consider fixes, vote for local and national representatives, etc.
While my personal preference is to try and focus on solutions to these local issues and not just rant, some people like to complain, and some like to complain about people complaining. But to paraphrase Gandhi, bitching about bitching just makes everyone bitchy.
Regardless, no matter the distance from the capital, or how far down the road and into the rainforest, or how much you choose to ignore the news, you can't ever truly escape national politics.

we in Hawai'i are not immune..
No we are not. But knowing the difference between a local issue that is a trickle down from a national, verses a national disguised as a local, is the task at hand, and one each of us has to bring not only our analytical minds, but our hearts to bare. Whereas of late, some are hell bent on pushing that boundary, and it would be nice if they would give I up. In other words show some respect rather than daily.. hourly.. push the boundary.
It would be otherwise if the world, the net, wasn't full of alternative places to indulge to one's content. But it is, and PW is a gem in the middle of all that other nonsense. Seriously, I am sure you can rattle off ten alternatives where one so inclined can spend every waking moment talking about their political bent. And I think it is fine.. and would like those so inclined to head on over to their favorite haunt.. and leave PW for Hawaii. And no, because a past prez was born here don't make nonsense vids of him local fare...

The crux of the matter. When local is connected to national as it often is, almost everyone draws a different line in the black sand.
When that happens it triggers reports of perceived transgressions, posts about favoritism, questions why one post is deleted and not another. Occasionally suggestions on how to handle it all.
We have few rules on this forum, if we had more it would still not cover every eventuality. From my view, often when forum rules are broken it’s not an accident. It’s a test of boundaries or perhaps logorrhea, maybe just too much beer or caffeine depending on the time of day. Or not.
The simplest solution would be for everyone here to read what they wrote before they posted and ask themselves “is it Puna? Is it Hawaii?”

MM - But knowing the difference...
Agreed - which is why that post was apparently (and properly IMO) moderated out of existence, just like the one before it. What is good for the nene goose is good for the nene gander.
Obviously there is a game going on where people try to toe or push the line and bait someone over it to get their response deleted or possibly get someone banned. If the moderator is concerned about this behavior they can always reach out to these folks privately and issue some warnings, or the mod might just want the job security ( UHERO is forecasting a mild recession for Hawai'i this year) and prefers to keep playing whack-a-mongooose - that's their call, and (happily) not mine.
While you and I might be able to have a civil and rational discussion over differences, many users are clearly not interested, and have some adze to grind. There seems to be widespread signs of info and cognitive fatigue, which is part of the national flood-the-zone plan, and so anything more than a one-liner or even slightly acknowledging the wider world is just too exhausting to parse and makes people prone to lash out. Hopefully, "cool heads, warm hearts" will win out, both on Punaweb and more widely irl, but it might also just be a time of Kū, the god of politics and war.

That maybe true. Depending on how you look at it. Maybe in the here and now, in the moment, as a bit of a jovial remembrance of how life used to be, especially right here in little old Hilo?
At any event, why would you feel it necessary to make any response to my "nonsense vids of him" and bring up this whole hoopla of National Politics - OMG Julie and National Politics, OMG OMG!!!!! while saying nothing about this post or this post? Are these two posts Puna? Hawaii? Did the poster read them before posting? Did you read them? Did they push any of this boundary you speak of?
Those two posts as referenced above are just 100% National Politics being shoved down our throat.
Of which, I wholeheartedly agree should not be done.

Everyone thinks their national politics posts and their kings are perfectly fine. That whole thread is national politics. People are even posting about Chicago and Iran. LMAO
The best way to remain UNO-bliterated by posters with one arm tied behind their backs and the truth in their sails, is to just keep it local. Be the change you want to see.
MyMan is 100% right. Maybe just listen.
