What is it? Where is it?
Zodiacal light …. You can see it from the end of Paradise Drive on both clear and dark mornings.

Thank you TomK, I’m definitely going to check this out!

Gaining a PhD shows you are capable of independent research and are an expert in your own particular field, and you demonstrate that to your peers. How that means you lose humanity and wonderment is something you'll have to explain to everyone. If you don't, you're bulsh*tting.

I have another example of a scientist (Feng Zhang) with a deeply curious mind and a good heart.

I'm proud that my alma mater hired him as a professor of neuroscience. He volunteered his time for free for an interview with an educational youtube channel, SciShow. This demonstrates that he is in his profession to increase our knowledge of biology, and to encourage younger minds to join in this important research. Saving lives is much more noble than profiting from the stock market.

Thanks, BlackAkita. I suspect the whining about PhDs is from people who don't actually understand what one is or what it involves. How one can even think that most people who attempt to gain a PhD have to give up their humanity is such deplorable nonsense that you have to wonder what happened to that person to hold such an opinion. As for giving up wonderment, that's such an outrageous claim, because people start PhDs because they wonder about the field of research they're entering, want to learn more, and contribute new knowledge to the subject. That's the whole point of a PhD. No one starts a PhD in a subject they don't like or are not interested in. What would be the point of that?

I know, I know!

As in how in all the universes could anyone know from a pic of a few square feet of ground and a rock? Of course, it's in the summit region of Kilauea but is it the Crater Rim, the Kilauea Iki, Byron's Ledge, the little path through Thurston's.. or the Escape road trail? Unless you give us a bit more.. a skyline.. a clump of trees.. anything to use as an actual clue.. it's just a guessing game. So, my guess, it's one of the trails I mention above.
If you see ICE, call 911.

Where? Within five miles of the erupting vents.
What? Reticulite (?)
Which trail? All of the above.
Certainty will be the death of us.

What, exactly, are people being asked to do other than turn up at the lookout at 9 am? It says it's a work day but doesn't explain what the work is. You're aiming this at people who haven't been to Waipeo Valley and haven't felt welcome (that's another topic, why would they think they're unwelcome?), but what are they being asked to do?

Did you read kalianna's post? It does say for more info go to.. doesn't it?

Or, maybe you have poor comprehension skills? Or, even better, you just like being contrary.. see if you can sucker someone into posting something you can browbeat them over?

Which is it Tom?

Btw.. on the flier it clearly says if you got questions give 'em a call. Can you do that? Or, perchance, did your 'education' not include following directions?
