The Bicker Board
(02-10-2026, 07:36 PM)ironyak Wrote: As for fear about local criminals terrorizing the women-folk, the fact that less than 14% of those arrested by ICE in the last year actually have violent criminal records doesn't seem to line up with your fears. About half of the arrested in Honolulu people you linked only have drug / immigration charges which are not violent crimes - are you in support of the government locking people up and deporting them for what they choose to put in their bodies?

Here are the nonviolent crimes that don’t fall under the 14%: drug trafficking and use, DWI, all crimes of theft, all crimes of fraud. In addition, child pornography, endangerment and child trafficking are not considered violent crimes.

Bill O’Reilly said that means that migrant gangs who control drug trafficking operations wouldn’t be subject to ICE detention.

“Not violent. Nope,” he said. “See what the fraud is? You see what the big lie is? When people hear this, they go, ‘Oh, ICE is rounding up just poor farmers, poor hotel workers. Only 14% are violent criminals.’ What a lie.”

O’Reilly said the federal government’s own statistics show that 60% of undocumented people detained by Homeland Security have committed some kind of criminal offense.

Ironyak - Are those all part of your "good, hard-working folks" that you want to stay in Hawaii?

Apparently, it's quite alright for those either born here in Hawaii, or in America and now live here in Hawaii to just be allowed to roam free and stay right here in Hawaii:

Kona judge reduces bail for suspect facing burglary, domestic abuse charges in 2 separate cases

Big Island trio charged with drug, firearm offenses; granted supervised release

I am also pretty sure, and I hope to be proven 100% wrong, but I'd say this guy's chances of getting a pittance amount of bail set will soon be inevitable:

Mississippi Man Arrested On Kidnapping, Abuse Charges

But, yeah, lets keep these types of crimes "Made in America" only and let's concentrate on getting rid of those illegal bad hombres only!

Wow. You are trying to justify illegals that are criminals, to stay in the U.S. with some sort of twisted logic.

What is real twisted logic, is you taking what I said and twisting it into the typical illogical response you just made.

ETA: To be very clear, I want the 5 people as referenced in the 3 links I posted above to be treated the EXACT SAME WAY any undocumented immigrant is and would be treated today if arrested for committing the EXACT SAME crimes. Not one group thrown on a plane at the cost of tens of thousands of dollars each while the others get "supervised release" or postage stamp bail.

The fact that it took you 5 days and needing guidance from repeat sexual harasser Bill O’Reilly to respond to information already given in the link is something else. As already noted by the CBS article - "Nearly 60% of ICE arrestees over the past year had criminal charges or convictions, the document indicates. But among that population, the majority of the criminal charges or convictions are not for violent crimes." Words have meaning, best to try to understand them instead of claiming you're being lied to.

Of the few(?) hundred immigrants detained by ICE in Hawai'i, how many fall into these major crime categories of your concern? Tang's Worst of the Worst has 25ish total people, half of which only have drug possession or illegal entry listed, which are not violent crimes, leaving 12 baddies out of hundreds detained. So where are all the murderers, human traffickers, and Tren de Aragua gang members you think you're surrounded by here in Hawai'i that were said to be the priority? Why are most of the migrants rounded up just agricultural and hospitality workers, the same sort of immigrants that historically traveled to Hawai'i, raised families, lived their lives, and built near everything you see and rely on daily.

All the math and history, both local and national, point to most immigrants having no criminal record, or minor non-violent offenses, at the same or less percentage as the general population.

HiloJulie - or does "God" get a free pass?
As you don't see him/her/it posting around here, it should be clear that no one gets a free pass - keep it local or face the consequences!

But among that population, the majority of the criminal charges or convictions are not for violent crimes.

It’s almost as if most of us can understand that if you get a ticket and a fine for driving 10 mph over the speed limit you don’t generally have to be thrown in jail.  Or if someone is jailed for a minor offense they might be released until their court date.  We’re mostly OK with accepting that there are different levels of punishment for various types of offenses.  A person arrested for murder probably stays in jail, because we don’t want him out on the street.

But immigration?  How is it that normally reasonable people who perfectly well understand the concept above, have been brainwashed into a one size fits all mentality equating a coffee picker in Kona, with a human trafficker on Oahu?

And if your argument is “they shouldn’t be here” then why does ICE target immigrants who are going through all the legal channels to gain citizenship (it’s a thing!) and grab them while they have appointments, hearings, etc for legal paperwork, legal extension requests?  Why do they grab children on the way to school?  Don’t we want people (or their parents) who live and work here to be educated, and taught to speak English?  Or would that take away opportunities for the brainwashed to get in someone’s face and yell “TALK ENGLISH!”

Says the person spending their time listening to Bill O’Reilly... lol

So no large numbers of immigrants in Hawai'i engaging in all the crimes you're so concerned about, right? Or are you sure they're out there, but just haven't been found yet? Maybe a few billion more in funding for the secret police will help reinforce your paranoid crime fantasies, because recognizing that you're living in a media reality built by liars to grab power and further yet more lies is just too difficult to accept?

You could always go spend some time on a coffee or other farm in Hawai'i, and get to actually know these people you keep villainizing - might learn a thing or two. Or you could treat it as undercover assignment to find these bad hombres that just have to be out there in large numbers lurking in the jungles with a lusty eye towards your women-folk... (will these centuries-old tropes never end?)

True. But then there are some who think our current political strife, some even right here in Puna and Hawaii, as well as elsewhere, is a sign of a "divine intervention" of sorts, so, yes, it does become a very fine line!

After doing some extensive traveling, I was overly excited to come and see that PW (and some members) had matured somewhat, but no - the usual suspects are still being usual. Well, here’s to “The more things change…” and all of that nonsense. Back to our regularly scheduled programming...
