What is it? Where is it?
Sorry I did not respond sooner, had to drive some friends over to the Kona Airport.

This one is easy peasy, but the first one I ever saw was not here on Mauna Kea, it was at Kitt Peak National Observatory near Tuscon, Arizona, before I saw the one in your pic,

It's all part of the Very Long Baseline Array -  a series of 10 identical radio telescopes scattered all over North America.

Bingo!

Or maybe how they say it down at Ken's, Sumo!

Obviously I'll have to be a little more creative in my choice of pics.. ;)

My first guess is somewhere along the undeveloped side of Kaloli Point?

That didn't take long!

Yes, not too far past Kaloli going towards Hilo.

The old guys have quite the sordid history of producing charlatans.. folks that claim to be what they are not. I even worked with a guy from there who wrote the text for a proposed book of mine whose working title was Mauna Kea: Pinnacle of the Pacific, that was produced under contract with the Bishop Museum (which during that time had shut down their publishing division over budgetary concerns), who went on about being an astronomer and it turned out he was just a librarian. Oddly enough that book, which I had assumed doesn't exist except for here in my office library, made its way into the collection of Monographs in the Center for Maunakea Stewardship Online Bibliographic Catalog

What's the name of the monograph, and who is the author? BTW, UKIRT has never had a librarian.

PS. Oh, just found it, and the person you're referring to is Kevin Krisciunas. He wasn't a librarian and is certainly an astronomer. I haven't seen him in decades; he was an odd character, but he's certainly a professional astronomer. So that's one of your lies ticked off.

PPS. I'll find his email address, drop him a line, and get his side of the story. He's still active and even published this year. And just to get this correct, your claim is that he wrote the text for your book, right?

PPPS. I've dropped him a line. Kevin is currently an Instructional Associate Professor Emeritus at The George P. and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Institute for Fundamental Physics and Astronomy at Texas A&M.

I received more info than I expected today. I won't post it here, I'm not one for posting hearsay, but what I will say is MyManao sent several emails to me this afternoon and evening. I responded to the first one, saying I won't post the info I received on PW, but then I received several other emails. They basically said I shouldn't email anyone without consulting a lawyer.

Sorry, MyManao, you don't get to tell me I can't practise free speech or who I email. You might also consider that if you continue to do so, you might be trying to hide something.  In addition, you made it possible to find the book/pamphlet that listed the authors; it's in the public domain, thanks to you.

Something in the snack isle at Daiso on Kīlauea? A lemon, chocolate, blue mint mochi treat?
