Upgrade? And other Hi-Tech Scams
#51
HiloJulie - Maybe hold the companies, their officers, directors and shareholders who allow their products to be hacked, and used for nefarious purposes being held criminally responsible for putting profit above the common good of humankind? Or maybe, just SWAT them? Works for me!
Go for it, you're the lawyer, sue em and let us know how it goes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZuxPKUVGiw As the first comment on the YT video says, "this couldn't be a more relevant song."
So NWA's "Beat a police outta shape, And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape, To tape off the scene of the slaughter ... And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath, Of cops, dyin' in L.A." couldn't be more relevant, but you take issue with a Punatic suggesting to swat the popo? Maybe make up your mind on the issue and then post?

No confusion at all. Just 15-20 years pissed away that if it had been done back then, would have made a dent in the overall problem.
Well 20 years ago was the time of Linda Lingle and the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative agreement, which at least got the process started in Hawai'i. But of course HECO has drug its feet in the decades since while the small upstart Kauai coop has raced ahead on renewables - amazing what you can do when you take the profit motive out of things. People could also just personally choose to do solar for themself and not wait around till HECO is forced kicking and screaming to make progress - there are always options, even if they are simple and small scale.

I am perfectly fine. Watched and read all your dated links and videos, and yet, none of them deal specifically with Puna or YOUR offering to help. And silly me, I must have confused what you meant when you said, "I'm not addicted to making up fantasies to avoid dealing with reality that many in your generation seem so prone for, I just get to call it like I sees it."
What about the kupuna scams are unique to Puna that the info from Aiea or Waimea isn't pertinent? And clearly, I am helping - just look at all the info I've provided you already to bring to your "Ye Olde Media Engagement and Digital Campaigns Manager" role for doing the boomer outreach that I am unqualified for, given my reduced age and dashing good looks.

I am quite sure you have overlapping prescriptions.
How sure? Sure enough to be wrong, yet again?

Actually, I stand corrected. The whole Karen thing was more of a millennial generation invention used to describe the Gen-X and boomer generation. I'm sure however, that Rob was and still is the true tie died hippy dude! And a boomer too! How about that!
Yeah, not all boomers are bad, just a voting majority over the years. The older, white, rich, male, hetro, non-union, southern and midwest conservatives that reelected Dubya 20 years ago really screwed the pooch on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, along with blocking Climate initiatives that would have kept us from being stuck with the Inconvenient Truth of ~$6 a gallon of gas today at the local Minit Stop. But hey, another round of Middle East adventurism will solve everything I'm sure; a old white rich male hetro non-union conservative from Florida said so!

I'd also venture to say, his webmaster is in any generational category EXCEPT that of a boomer.
Maybe - who knows what secrets lurks in the heart of the Punaweb system? Only the Rob knows!

Of course, Yak! How else can one stand to be in a room with a Gen-Xer unless they are "happy, sad, ill, angry, hungry, drunk, (and) stoned" while you constantly try to turn off the TV channel of Sponge Bob so you can go in and out of the Matrix? And besides, everyone knows when you have no more tools in your debate bucket, immediately throw out the "must be drunk and stoned" reference. Always a winner for you hey?
Debate? Where? Who? You think this is a debate - what could possibly be the topic? You're really hung up on the "drunk and stoned" thing but there are several other options in that list - any of them help explain your apparent constant agitation?

randomq - If we're going all the way back it would be playing Adventure on the Atari 2600, and Oregon Trail on an Apple II in school for me. And technically my first LAN game would have been "Midi Maze" on the Atari. (Amiga ended up being a way better system overall, but the Atari ST did have its dual MIDI ports going for it, which of course was for instruments, but could also work like a token ring network).
Interesting, didn't realize Faceball 2000 was an Atari port when we played it on the Gameboys. That MIDI as a token ring network up to 16 machines is pretty neat as well - quite the capable little machine! When not dying of dysentery, I got to "help" the Junior High teacher setup a token ring network when they replaced all the typewriters with computers for typing class - was a bit of a process as I remember it, but fun to get hands on and string some cable (super cool teacher for putting up with, and even encouraging, us dweebs - all kids should be so lucky :)

But yeah, before all that, it was grandma's house with the giant wooden console floor TV and the Light Sixer variant of the Atari 2600 for gaming outside the arcade - Defender, Missile Command, Pitfall, 4 player Combat and Pong with the paddle controllers was a regular, multi-generational hootenanny during family get-togethers. Even got the ill-fated E.T. game when it came out and tried to love it as much as I did the movie (was difficult, but was good at playing pretend ;) Unfortunately, that's one cartridge that didn't make it into the care package, and haven't ran across it at flea markets or swap meets - maybe have to grab it online for nostalgia's sake (this has been a fun trip through the mental and physical attic - thanks! :)

Yak: Go for it, you're the lawyer, sue em and let us know how it goes.
Perhaps you did not hear what happened to FaceBook yesterday? And then to both FaceBook and YouTube today? I can't image you would be uninformed on those issues.

Yak: So NWA's "Beat a police outta shape, And when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape, To tape off the scene of the slaughter ... Maybe make up your mind on the issue and then post?
Yeah, I was kind of hard on that. I guess those Filipino teachers in Maui got what they deserved. Renee Good and Alex Pretti too. As for the Punatic suggesting SWATTING a squatter, hey, good practice for a few trigger-happy cops - and with "qualified immunity" to boot!

Yak: Well 20 years ago was the time of Linda Lingle and the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative agreement, which at least got the process started in Hawai'i. But of course HECO has drug its feet in the decades since while the small upstart Kauai coop has raced ahead on renewables - amazing what you can do when you take the profit motive out of things. https://www.civilbeat.org/2016/07/why-it...an-energy/

HECO exists because the voters allow it. I'd support a 100% Statewide Kauai style coop. And since I am on solar, while I still have HECO as a backup, have not had to use it for almost going on 2 years now. But, just like the alcoholic and drug addict, one can't just quit cold turkey. So had the LNG initiative happened when first proposed, well, we would be much better off today than we are now. That was my entire point all along. Baby steps. Ween us off the addition to bunker oil, which we still burn to this very day. And remember what political party Lingle was affiliated with.

Yak: What about the kupuna scams are unique to Puna that the info from Aiea or Waimea isn't pertinent? And clearly, I am helping - just look at all the info I've provided you already to bring to your "Ye Olde Media Engagement and Digital Campaigns Manager" role for doing the boomer outreach that I am unqualified for, given my reduced age and dashing good looks.
I was not the one who said "Kupuna would have to listen to the woke youngsters though, and they know better than that!" so, you more or less unqualified your own self, and as for your dashing good looks, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Yak: How sure? Sure enough to be wrong, yet again?
I was not that one who asked if I took the blue pill. Females don't need the blue pill. And being the Vegas lover I am so well known for, I'd say you have no doubt consumed a few blue pills. Even confident enough to make a wager.

Yak: Yeah, not all boomers are bad, just a voting majority over the years. But hey, another round of Middle East adventurism will solve everything I'm sure; a old white rich male hetro non-union conservative from Florida said so!
Let's not confuse all the boomers with republicans, but I am glad to see you letting up on your prior analogies of ALL boomers being similar to what one could say that if a Hawaiian, or a Black or an Asian man robs a store, all Hawaiian, Black or Asian men rob stores has evolved a bit.

Now, remember who got elected after Dubya. With virtually every age bracket voting at 50% plus the first term, and by the second term, yeah, the republican boomers got incensed at a black man sitting in the Oval, in a tan suit nonetheless, but he got elected again with a majority of younger voters and about 45% of boomers. And then, look at who the republican boomer AND younger republican generations elected after Barack. And then again 4 years later. What was Dubya's famous flubbed line about "fool me once..." And now, look at the mess we are into today. Might as well get used to 6 bucks a gallon for the next few years.

But further escaping me is why you even mention any of this as if I am part of this or agree with what has gone on. Is it solely because I am a boomer? The America this boomer was born and raised and lived in ended on 1/21/17. I doubt it will ever come back. And I'll go on record as saying that in my opinion, in my lifetime, starting with LBJ, then Jimmy, then Bill and ending with Barack are the best POTUS' America ever had. Joe was great as well, but, unfortunately, he just aged too fast. Happens with some people.

Yeah, but don't forget, Rob is one of those boomers too! But a good one, I guess. Right?

Debate? Where? Who? You think this is a debate - what could possibly be the topic? You're really hung up on the "drunk and stoned" thing but there are several other options in that list - any of them help explain your apparent constant agitation?
Well, we can call it a debate, or just simple banter back and forth, but as for the one with the apparent agitation, have you read what you have said? Any of it?

As for the drunk/stoned comment, outside of making a few prior jokes about Snoop Dogg/Martha Stewart brownies and Snoop Dogg wine, who have I accused of being drunk and or stoned by what they post? How am I the one who is hung up on drunk and stoned when in the last week you have insinuated that Kane, Wahine and now myself of obviously being drunk and/or stoned while posting? I am seeing lots and lots of projection here Yak, and remember the old adage, every accusation is a confession, so maybe you got some cognitive dissonance issues going on here?

Now, as for all this Gen X video game talk, if one were to go way back, and I mean way back, I played Pong. In high school. But then I moved out from Mom and Dad at 18 to go halfway across the Country to go to school for 4 years, graduated (with honors) then across the entire Country for 3 more years, graduated, (with honors again) got married, passed the bar, and then got a job and went to work every day, (with me being docked 2 weeks' pay for the wedding and honeymoon, while my husband who worked at the same firm as me got paid), had 2 kids (getting 3 weeks of unpaid time off to birth each kid), continued on in my professional career, climbing the preverbal corporate ladder, busting through that glass ceiling a few times, and then went on to take the Uniform Bar Exam, passing it, becoming licensed in several other states, promoted to a full-fledged "Member of the Firm" and then retired, now "Of Counsel" with the same firm that hired me 35 plus years ago.

Silly me, I spent my weekends in my dorm studying. God I was such a dork.

HiloJulie, have you ever thought about applying your legal skills towards Puna issues? I assume you're not licensed and practicing in Hawaii (perhaps incorrectly) but your insights and connections might be valuable. Not only for present day stuff (gas tax not making it back to our private roads, rights of pre-statehood subdivisions, civil rights issues regarding emergency response times, County's selective spending of revenues on Hilo and Kona vs Puna, County/oligarch's stranglehold on commercial zoning) but the future crisis looming (taxing people out of their lots without even providing services, septic mandates where rich coastal residents are subsidized but inland Puna residents are not, the ability of the County to aggressively enforce building codes and make tens of thousands homeless). I think we need an organization that lobbies for and represents Puna in these manners...

Everyone takes a different path to enlightenment. Some may even get there.

First, being clear, I am not a licensed attorney in Hawaii, my occupation and practice of law was all in the mostly western mainland states, and a few eastern states. My home is in the Acres here in Hawaii. I never had any need to become a Hawaii attorney myself as well as the firm I was with had no business operations in Hawaii.

All that being said, and in as much as everything you have said is indeed important Puna issues, my background is in IP/Copyright law and does not really fit what is needed to properly assist Puna residents with those issues. Now, we did help several dozen Puna residents while volunteering at the HUB during the lava flow with food/water donations and helping serve meals etc., in getting them their rightful share of FEMA as well as assisting them with various insurance claim submissions etc., the alarming thing for both my husband and myself in doing that, was the shocking amount of, and I hate to say ignorance of what they were entitled to but it was almost always complete misinformation they had been fed by others. And some rather dozy conspiracy stuff, like some believing that in order to get money from FEMA, FEMA must microchip you first. Breaking down that barrier for most of them at first was harder than eventually getting them to meet and sit down with the FEMA reps as well as contact their insurance carriers to start the claims process.

And in as much as I appreciate all of the issues you have raised, while again being very important to Puna people, but they more or less are way outside my wheelhouse of expertise where I could be an effective person of value. However, if any such organization ever does become established, I would be more than happy to help in other ways other than boots on the ground, be it financial or other likewise ways.

Have you talked with Joy San Buenaventura? She is, after all, an actual lawyer, and our state senatorial representative to boot. It seems to me if one really cares about those things maybe mo bettah talk with someone that is for real.. not one disgruntled maybe worked in an extremely specialized field over on Turtle Island kine.. expert in these matters. And, I suspect Joy would be a real resource on helping find the people you're looking for..

While I agree that Joy San Buenaventura, in her capacity as a Hawaii State Senator, representing the Puna District 2 would be a good start to help with the issues you have presented, I would think she would already be doing that to some extent. And while she is an attorney, her primary area of practice was/is personal injury litigation, so, as a standalone attorney, while it would certainly help, would more or less be the same as my issue.

The attorney your issues describe would more or less require someone well versed in tax law, civil rights law, governmental law, commercial zoning law and environmental law, to name a few. Using an attorney just with the title attorney without understanding how most attorneys specialize in distinct areas of the law can get quite expensive as generally, an attorney faced with a client who needs to be represented in a legal issue in an area outside his/her expertise, would simply bill for their hours expended finding another attorney who does specialize in the area of law needed, and then you end up paying two attorneys, which is the last thing any type of organization being established that lobbies for and represents Puna in these manners needs. Having the wrong attorney representing one's legal needs for example, an attorney who specializes in tax law representing you on a murder charge or putting it another way, something similar to having a mainland haole transplant thinking they are entitled and qualified to use the term "Turtle Island" is not a real good idea.

And as another suggestion, you may wish to start a new thread of your own on this important subject matter if that's what you're interested in. I'd hate to see you be called out about thread titles and straying off the farm and all that. Wastes way too much of your time!

At any event, good luck!

Been tracking MDL 3047 related cases for awhile, but those thousands of personal cases and those brought by the state AGs aren't about the tech giants allowing their systems to be hacked or used for scams against seniors so there appears to be new legal grounds for you to explore (but better get to it as there is blood in the water)

Well, then you need to get the people to rise up and force the PUC to take action, or maybe storm the local HECO offices and do a sit in, like those Sunrise Movement kids back in 2018? Let us know how we can help.

I was not the one who said "Kupuna would have to listen to the woke youngsters though, and they know better than that!" so, you more or less unqualified your own self, and as for your dashing good looks, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
I didn't disqualify myself, all the "I know better than everyone else" seniors disqualified me, as you yourself complained about the lack of 80 year old spokespeople for Hawaii'i that they'll listen to. Oh well, horses to water and pigs with books, lipstick optional.

I was not that one who asked if I took the blue pill. Females don't need the blue pill. And being the Vegas lover I am so well known for, I'd say you have no doubt consumed a few blue pills. Even confident enough to make a wager.
I didn't ask you that either - I was asking if that's what you were suggesting (and yes, it's another nod to The Matrix, thanks for playing along with name that pop-culture reference). As for your wager, I already know the outcome, but maybe I can point you to a website where you can place your bet using cryptocurrency? All the ads say you can win big so of course you should trust them, right?

Let's not confuse all the boomers with republicans, but I am glad to see you letting up on your prior analogies of ALL boomers being similar to what one could say that if a Hawaiian, or a Black or an Asian man robs a store, all Hawaiian, Black or Asian men rob stores has evolved a bit.
Please point to where I said ALL boomers - I'll wait. (it helps to read all the words in a sentence to grasp how clause and sub-clauses add precise qualifiers and exceptions).

So in 2016 males, white, over 45 (boomer + pre-1971 older genX), $50K+ earners, non-union, conservatives focused on Immigration and Terrorism, determined the national outcome (Hawai'i voted blue, again, shakas all around). In [https://ropercenter.cornell.edu/how-grou...-2024]2024[/url]  males, white and "other"(?), over 45 (boomer + much of genX - thanks Rogan), $100K- earners, non-union, conservatives focused on Immigration, The Economy, and Foreign Policy, determined the national outcome (Hawai'i voted blue, again, more shakas). Inflation from the pandemic spending that weren't taken back up via taxes (MMT works by investing in people and infrastructure and then recouping the costs via taxes on the economic growth) - just forgiving PPP loans for every multi-million dollar scammer (see, related to the thread Mod ;) tends to drive up prices. So does bombing oil producing countries to get even with the dead for events from ~50 years ago. We all get to pay at the pump, along with current and future generations on every April 15th for their existence - thanks Trumpsters!

But further escaping me is why you even mention any of this as if I am part of this or agree with what has gone on. Is it solely because I am a boomer? Just noting the conditions 20 years ago when some people in the environmental movement were trying to push renewables forward over the demands for drill baby drill, and yet more fossil fuel use, whether it be bunker fuel or LNG.

Yeah, but don't forget, Rob is one of those boomers too! But a good one, I guess. Right?
Correct - Rob's pretty cool, puts up with our shenanigans here and is working on addressing the housing crisis. Boomer that stayed true to the ideals of his youth best I can tell (but maybe he has a secret Disco Yuppie phase he's never shared with us... ;)

Well, we can call it a debate, or just simple banter back and forth, but as for the one with the apparent agitation, have you read what you have said? Any of it?
No I keep my eyes closed and execute each stroke in state of Zen transcendentalism like Zatoichi. Hard to be agitated while listening to the rain with your eyes closed as you "first empty your cup".

If you actually read what was written, I asked the same question that Rob asks to take into account that posters may be drunk, stoned, having a moment, and/or distracted. Some people have noted that they post while in such states so not projecting at all, more just highlighting that explicitly stated possibility. Others have asked you what you are on about as well, so you might consider how your words are being received by multiple readers?

...Silly me, I spent my weekends in my dorm studying. God I was such a dork.
Many of us did that too, and more. Everyone has an academic and professional history, many people on Punaweb have expertise in one thing or another. I've found it helps to listen more than talk when they speak on topics they know well.

I'd hate to see you be called out about thread titles and straying off the farm and all that.
I thought randomq just got tired of playing, or talking about, games and decided if Punaweb can't be upgraded, maybe Puna could be. Seems on point to me!

Like I said, this is the thread where we are all killing time waiting for the upgrade to complete.  There's really not much more to be said about the upgrade itself...

HiloJulie, if Joy were going to champion Puna issues she would have done it years ago.  She's had the platform.  My thinking is more to form a group that really represents Puna, lobbies for it, and defends it legally when necessary.  Maybe you could advise us when we would benefit from a lawyer, when lawyers are trying to rip us off, etc. :-)  Anyway I have neither the time nor energy to pursue that now.  But I will make time to protest tomorrow, and I hope others do as well.  Honk that horn like a machine gun when you drive by, the whole way, it really raises the spirits!

Glad to hear you're tracking something. As for the cases not having anything to do with scams against seniors, you're right, but I'm willing to let possible lawsuits against tech companies and scamming seniors take a back seat while the case against the addicted YouTuber may be of a more immediate issue, but come on now, the case the Zuckster lost, along with the stuff slowly being dribbled out of some Jewish guy's files, and then Musky and his Grok... wowzer, we got some real sickos out there. And it looks like the good old Section 230 may have a new crack in it.

Yak: Huh? How's the ICE/CBP actions in Maui and Minnesota related? And shouldn't it be swatting a squadder?
Related to what, the song? Let's see now, they have a badge, carry a loaded gun, can arrest you and can shoot you, with immunity. The old saying escapes me at the moment, but it is something about a duck walking, swimming and quacking. At least we now got gaggles full of mostly out of shape, poorly, if ever trained, and ARMED goons roaming our airports, while the wait times and lines get longer and longer. But hey, they aren't wearing any masks, so that's good! And they're getting paid! But I do love the theory that sending in ICE agents to replace TSA workers who are either quitting like rats on a sinking ship or not showing up for work after not getting paid for 2 months as if these positions are completely interchangeable. That's like if you need a colonoscopy and your doctor is too backlogged, well then, just call up Joe the plumber and fire up the Roto-Rooter!

Yak: Well, then you need to get the people to rise up and force the PUC to take action, or maybe storm the local HECO offices and do a sit in, like those Sunrise Movement kids back in 2018? Let us know how we can help.
Nope! Not getting anybody to do anything. I got my solar, so as I see it, I got my piece of cake, I am eating it, and I got 2 more whole cakes in the fridge. I'm thinking any rising up to force the PUC to change would be best performed by those younger, non-conformist anarchy loving Gen X'ers.. But I do admire your ability to moan, bitch and complain about everything, blame everybody else for it, mostly boomers, while expecting someone else, mainly a boomer, to do something about it. Typical.

Yak: I didn't ask you that either - I was asking if that's what you were suggesting (and yes, it's another nod to The Matrix, thanks for playing along with name that pop-culture reference). As for your wager, I already know the outcome, but maybe I can point you to a website where you can place your bet using cryptocurrency? All the ads say you can win big so of course you should trust them, right?
Sorry, my boomer mind keeps forgetting that some people think reality is the Movie and Video Game(s) called "The Matrix." And I am also quite sure that you could point me to endless websites that deal with crypto betting. However, I am kind of interested in the new platform of prediction betting, and even more interested in how very recently, there have been these seemingly off the wall predictions made, then huge bets placed on that prediction, such as predictions for going to war in Iran or the price of oil to suddenly rise and that this betting takes place literally hours right before it happens, making some obscure unknown people/entities tens of millions of dollars. It's almost like they know it was going to happen right before it happened. Now, as for placing my bet with crypto, while it is a good idea, I can't find any bookies to take my $WLFI digital tokens.

Yak: Please point to where I said ALL boomers - I'll wait. (it helps to read all the words in a sentence to grasp how clause and sub-clauses add precise qualifiers and exceptions).
Well, here is one. And then, this one. I'll wait while you re-read what you said. And make sure to read all of it now. There are numerous others, but these 2 are good examples. Maybe you're forgetting what you said? As an aged boomer, I can tell you that the first 2 signs of senility are forgetting things and for the life of me I can't remember the 2nd, but perhaps maybe you might be experiencing early onset symptoms?

Yak: So in 2016 males, white, over 45 (boomer + pre-1971 older genX), $50K+ earners, non-union, conservatives focused on Immigration and Terrorism, determined the national outcome (Hawai'i voted blue, again, shakas all around). None of this pertains to me in any fashion whatsoever. I did not vote for it, but we do now all get to pay for it. Too bad the Tang disappeared, maybe into the Matrix of never-ending Hawaii Election Commission Zoom Calls? I'd love to hear his take on all of this. But, again, being clear, I had not one thing to do with it, nor do I support any of it. On the other hand, this just makes me wonder if you are just simply flooding PunaWeb with National Politics. Once again. And then, do I detect a rather large amount of you being agitated here? Hmm...

Yak: Just noting the conditions 20 years ago when some people in the environmental movement were trying to push renewables forward over the demands for drill baby drill, and yet more fossil fuel use, whether it be bunker fuel or LNG.
I have never disputed any of that. But, compared to bunker oil, LNG is better. Still bad, but better. Like Lite Beer for the more weight challenged beer drinkers. Or Marlboro Lights versus Marlboro Reds. Baby steps.

Yak: No I keep my eyes closed and execute each stroke in state of Zen transcendentalism like Zatoichi. Hard to be agitated while listening to the rain with your eyes closed as you "first empty your cup".
I'm gonna go with you making your posts on one screen as you play some 20–30-year-old video game on another screen while also listening and watching to bootlegged music videos on the 3rd screen all at the same time, and probably, while at work. Perhaps maybe even being paid, directly or indirectly by the Hawaii and American taxpayer???

Yak: If you actually read what was written, I asked the same question that Rob asks to take into account that posters may be drunk, stoned, having a moment, and/or distracted. Some people have noted that they post while in such states so not projecting at all, more just highlighting that explicitly stated possibility. Others have asked you what you are on about as well, so you might consider how your words are being received by multiple readers?
I read everything you said. You insinuated in several ways that 2 other posters and I must be drunk and or stoned when making posts, then you tried the PunaTang reverse uno card trick, trying to turn it in to me being the one being obsessed with drunk/drugged posting. Again Yak, you're projecting. As for any poster saying anything about what I post, well, like you said, "I just get to call it like I sees it" (with references!) well, so do I! I do find anyone who takes issue with what I post is mostly upset as what I post is true, and in a majority of cases, I just use and turn the exact same words they said back at them in the first place. That does upset a few! But I just sense more of you just being a bit agitated here... again.

Yak: Many of us did that too, and more. Everyone has an academic and professional history, many people on Punaweb have expertise in one thing or another. I've found it helps to listen more than talk when they speak on topics they know well.
(See above response for context) Another projection here again Yak. Your posts are long and laborious and difficult to read and difficult to reply to. And those dammed emojis. If you ever read anything I've ever posted, there are numerous posts I have made in agreement with other posters. I too have an academic and professional history, yet in my case, I've been told I am a liar, fictitious, once called a ChatGPT LLM, some guy named "Ken" and been demanded to disclose confidential information on legal cases I have been involved with as well as disclose my state Bar license numbers to prove I am who I say I am. I've never seen ANY other poster faced with a demand like that. And while that does not agitate me, it does show that I have clearly agitated others. And when someone does speak on topics they know more about that me, I listen. And you sure do know how to be verbose! Much better than I ever could be! But it seems to me that you're more or less saying that I don't know what I am talking about. Please explain that more. Provide evidence of that.

Yak: I though randomq just got tired of playing, or talking about, games and decided if Punaweb can't be upgraded, maybe Puna could be. Seems on point to me!
Oh, to be clear, I am not mad at randomq for making that post. I agree that randomq's post was spot on. In every aspect. I too am also wondering what the status of the update is. I only suggested randomq make a new thread as it is a very important issue. However, in the history of PunaWeb thread jacking, it seems as long as its anyone else but me possibly jacking a thread, it's just another okie dokie. And I was concerned that maybe, as I was called out, on my own created thread, for introducing a congruent issue, I did not want randomq to have to deal with that. I suggested a new thread topic be made out of respect and care for randomq, unlike how some jackass tried to discredit me and while being extremely agitated apparently tried to do.

Yak: Like I said, this is the thread where we are all killing time waiting for the upgrade to complete.  There's really not much more to be said about the upgrade itself...

Well, that's true enough! Maybe Rob's webmaster is stuck somewhere in the Matrix while making the effort to learn that "some rules can be bent, others can be broken." Hopefully they will learn the second part of the lesson. In the meantime, maybe some nonconforming, anarchy lovers could put up more blinking flashing neon-colored pages, toss in a few rapid 5 second GIF's ala 1980's/90's old computer graphics while waxing nostalgically about the good old days of internet beginnings and marathon video game playing in mommy's basement. Maybe even toss in a sound bite of the old dial up modem connecting screeching sound playing on an endless loop? Of course, at full volume too!

randomq: HiloJulie, if Joy were going to champion Puna issues she would have done it years ago.
(See above response for added context) I hear you randomq. But maybe, instead of thinking this near 70-year-old boomer lady should take on this fight, we toss Joy to the curb in the next election and get someone who has the drive, the initiative and the moxie to get shit done around Puna for once and for all. As you neither the time nor energy to pursue that now the same goes for me! But having said that, let's be honest. The same stuff you mentioned was the same stuff going on back when I moved here in 1987, so I am quite sure PunaWeb will be fixed before anything in Puna changes.

And yes, the Protest tomorrow! I too will be at the protest, along with my husband, of course Barney and some visiting family members flying in from the mainland, but we will all be at the Kona protest! And since Barney is our designated driver, bring on the Jack and pass that bong! Maybe I'll post after we get home! And I did have to tell Barney that he can't BRING his machine gun, just blow the horn like his machine gun. Jesus, talking about one being agitated.

HJ - Glad to hear you're tracking something.
I find it helps to be informed when forming an opinion... ... (extra ellipsis for emphasis ;)

the case the Zuckster lost, along with the stuff slowly being dribbled out of some Jewish guy's files, and then Musky and his Grok... wowzer, we got some real sickos out there. And it looks like the good old Section 230 may have a new crack in it.
Yeah, and imagine the kind of people, even those in Puna, that give them money, knowing all this? ... However section 230 wasn't at play here as the cases aren't about the site content but the features of the sites themselves - algorithmic feeds, infinite scroll, image filters, etc... basically many of the items highlighted in The Social Dilemma back in 2020 which used the framework developed by, oh look, Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin, who were at the trials.

Related to what, the song? Let's see now, they have a badge, carry a loaded gun, can arrest you and can shoot you, with immunity.
Gotcha - so Fuk ICE and Fuk da CBP - sounds like protest sign slogans, have see if they show up in Hilo / Kona.

Typical.
Some interesting additions being tacked onto your post in the wee hours... Just figured if you have complaints you might want to do something about them, other than whinge online. I'd suggest there is joy to be found in the struggle for good causes.

The neat thing about anarchism is that it's all about direct action and just getting things done locally. So while I find it useful to try and help steer the lumbering behemoth that is the modern bureaucratic state through talking to my reps, tracking and testifying for legislation, raising awareness and protesting, etc,  anarchism just cuts through all that and looks to immediately address material conditions and people's needs.

Build your housing, and help your neighbors build theirs, put together your solar and catchment systems, and help your neighbors do the same. Share knowledge and exchange fruits, veggies, livestock, and labor outside of any monetary framework and somehow people get education, housing, food, water, and electricity regardless of what the politicians do or don't do. Puna make so much of this so easy to do it's like second nature for many of us here.

Sorry, my boomer mind keeps forgetting that some people think reality is the Movie and Video Game(s) called "The Matrix."
"What is real? How do you define 'real'? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain." and so forth. I'd recommend some time with Simulacra and Simulation if you really want to get at the insanity of cryptocurrencies and prediction markets that are driving reality - "The territory no longer precedes the map, nor does it survive it. It is nevertheless the map that precedes the territory ... today it is the territory whose shreds slowly rot across the extent of the map. It is the real, and not the map, whose vestiges persist here and there in the deserts that are no longer those of the Empire, but ours. The desert of the real itself."

Well, here is one. And then, this one. I'll wait while you re-read what you said.
For a lawyer, your language use and interpretation is either really sloppy and imprecise, or intentionally in bad faith. There are a group of people born 1945-1964 which have been termed Baby Boomers, or Boomers for short. If you prefer the label the "Me Generation" given by some of of your parents writers, that works too. So when I say "As for "the boomers", they all might want to wake up a bit and really listen to what others are saying" I'm broadly addressing, hey all you in the back of the room, can you hear what is being said (we like Roy, we like Roy ;) Same goes for " ethical reasoning" is "rare in the boomers these days" - that's the opposite of saying ALL boomers, that's trying to distinguish them by their capacities.

None of this pertains to me in any fashion whatsoever. I did not vote for it, but we do now all get to pay for it. It pertains to you the same that it pertains to all of us - much like HECO, these outcomes exist because the voters allow them to exist. I'm more using a sample of national politics analysis to try and identify the people and interests at play (given we don't get the same level of group analysis for Hawai'i, unless someone has a good local source?) As for your agitation detector, it's as broken as your signifier & signified interpreter - probably a local tech in your area that could help make adjustments.

I have never disputed any of that. But, compared to bunker oil, LNG is better. Still bad, but better. Like Lite Beer for the more weight challenged beer drinkers. Or Marlboro Lights versus Marlboro Reds. Baby steps.
Lite beer still leads to heart and liver disease, and Marlboros of all types cause lung cancer, just as all fossil fuels cause climate change. Humanity has gotta kick the habit before it's too late.

If you mean public support you'd be wrong, if you mean a paycheck then you'd be right. As for bootlegged music video's that's not a current category on the media server, but could be useful addition to the mesh matrix, I mean network. Plenty of Puna/web related items possible - Video Killed the Radio Star, She Blinded Me With Science, Welcome to the Jungle, Sledgehammer, Don't Come Around Here No More - anyone got requests?

I read everything you said. You insinuated in several ways that 2 other posters and I must be drunk and or stoned when making posts, then you tried the PunaTang reverse uno card trick, trying to turn it in to me being the one being obsessed with drunk/drugged posting. So again, there are many possibilities in that list. You keep singling out those two - why? As for the other posters, I already knew what one of them had posted years ago so I was just making them re-aware of what has been said.

See above response for context) Another projection here again Yak. Your posts are long and laborious and difficult to read and difficult to reply to. And those dammed emojis.
Then don't? Punaweb participation is optional you know.

Seems like you have issues to take up with MyManao, leilanidude, and TomK. There are no damsels in distress on Punaweb, just individuals tossing words back and forth.

And you sure do know how to be verbose! Much better than I ever could be!
(as she proceeds to write a polemic on brevity ;)

But it seems to me that you're more or less saying that I don't know what I am talking about. Please explain that more. Provide evidence of that.
Often times you clearly don't know - see the Section 230 comment above. Again, it's not all or nothing, nothing is, regardless of your black and white, "you said ALL", interpretations.

It may help to remember that I returned to not just reading but posting on Punaweb (just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in! ;)  because of the Hawaii Decarbonization Settlement 2045 thread, in which some posters were attacking the kids as disingenuous (terracore), or not living up to impossible arbitrary standards (Tang), or making excuses for highly consumptive personal behavior (you). So dozens of pages spent trying to convince people that fossil fuels in all forms are bad, and that there are other options readily available, that aren't techno-hopium. Throughout that it was clear that there are many things you and others don't understand about the topic, which is fine, as long as you and they are willing to learn and not just make excuses to protect y'all's priors.

Oh, to be clear, I am not mad at randomq for making that post. I agree that randomq's post was spot on. In every aspect. I too am also wondering what the status of the update is. You're grinding axes with the wrong people - take it up with them?

Not Yak: Like I said, this is the thread where we are all killing time waiting for the upgrade to complete.  There's really not much more to be said about the upgrade itself...

You sure don't seem to like Punaweb or Punawebbers... Just hate posting at this point?

(See above response for added context) I hear you randomq. But maybe, instead of thinking this near 70-year-old boomer lady should take on this fight, we toss Joy to the curb in the next election and get someone who has the drive, the initiative and the moxie to get shit done around Puna for once and for all. That's the benefit of Puna, that things are slow to change, and Pele/volcanic eruptions puts limits on all development (sorry kalakoa). For anyone who want's "modernity", mainland sprawl is that away ---> (orient your screen as needed)

And yes, the Protest tomorrow! I too will be at the protest, along with my husband, of course Barney and some visiting family members flying in from the mainland, but we will all be at the Kona protest! Protests welcome all those willing to show up and do the work, regardless if they have two legs or four, or are "happy, sad, ill, angry, hungry, drunk, stoned or simultaneously watching Sponge Bob." Much like Punaweb, they're cool that way. :)
