No Dictators, No Tyrants Protests - March 28th in Hilo, Waimea, etc
#31
lol - do you know leilanidude how hard it is to get purple hair dye and nose rings out? Probably not, but I'll tell you it's much easier just to leave it all in, as with most body piercings - do you want to know more about those as well, big boy? Can get you hooked up!

Hating colorful hair and self-expression - how could you manage to get through a day in Puna?

See y'all there, in bold and living color!

Funny to think some of our most conservative, self-sovereign, states-rights, freedom-loving Punatics would shy away from a demonstration against *fascism*. Some people move to rural Hawaii specifically to get away from overbearing government, surveillance, oligarch run multinationals, forever wars, forever chemicals, etc. Now's your chance to speak out against someone that promotes all these horrible things!

for the silly protest, today?

While our neighbors in Puna do without food assistance or health insurance so that people who will never set foot in Puna can engorge themselves with more money than they’ll ever spend, let’s call the protesters of that policy silly.  Sure.

Look at the faces of the billionaires and trillionaire.  Are they happy?  Look close. They are miserable souls, whose greed has overshadowed anything else they may have in their lives.  They pick fights, they bully those around them, and force their hand selected sycophants to bow and agree out loud, thank you sir may I have another? Those “leaders” are so blind they can’t even recognize when they have enough.  Will another billion bring them the joy a conga player in a drum circle in lower Puna has, as s/he overlooks the blue Pacific while the sun sinks from view?  Or the smiles at the Maku’u Sunday Market?

Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day.

This story shall the good man teach his son;

From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;

Have to say everyone brought their A game for signs. Thought this one was spot on for our part-time resident intolerant troll. (Plenty more to post but will have to wait as the electromagnetic spectrum is super saturated down here - probably from all the rainbows :)

Good vibes as always! Was planning on staying an hour and stayed two. Most of the crowd looked like they were going for three!

It feels like at every rally there are more people honking and giving the shaka in support!

Obie - I'm living here for the weather.
Well, with Hawai'i county and state looking to fill the holes left in their budgets from the federal cuts you voted for by taxing second/third/additional homes, best be prepared to pay a premium to get rained on.

Seriously, right? Perfectly timed gap in the rain allowed for wandering the packed crowd and enjoying the various musical offerings from people blasting tunes, to the full live band Rockin in the Free World (and Ohio too! ;)

Good also to see some younger radical anti-fascists making an impression as well, repping some Dropkick Murphys in dramatic style. Some, but not ALL, kids are alright.

Trib has some good pics and summary of signs and events.
https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/202...y-in-hilo/
"The sidewalks on both sides of Kamehameha Avenue in downtown Hilo swelled with protesters Saturday as thousands turned out for the third “No Kings” National Day of Nonviolent Action.

A sea of colorful costumes, American flags and countless handmade picket signs — running the gamut from wholesome and hopeful to the downright obscene — lined the border of Hilo Bayfront Park, while popup tents blasted rock music through portable speakers and mobile hand drummers made their rounds beating out catchy rhythms.
...
Field counts conducted by Indivisible at Saturday’s rally in Hilo tallied more than 3,200 people in a crowd that extended three-quarters of a mile, nearly reaching the Mooheau Bandstand." (more at link)

Where is all this fascism you are talking about? Where is this king you protest against?
BTW - love the irony of no kings - in Hawaii where the sovereignty movement wants to reinstate a king.

While the Tuesday November 4th 2024 No Tyrants Protest was larger and more effective by orders of magnitude, it's still good to see the old folks out having a joyous time.

The "Out of the Mouths of Boomers" award goers to Peter Frost (72) of Hawaiian Paradise Park in Puna, who rolled up in a gas guzzling antique monster truck:

“We no longer have control of our county,” Frost said. “Both parties, they both suck. They’re both owned. Until we get a hold on Citizen’s United, on AIPAC as a foreign agent, they’ll keep dragging us into wars. It’s so in your face, it’s so Orwellian, it’s so ‘I do what I want and you can’t do nothing about it,’” he said. “And he’s absolutely correct, he’s a criminal, he’s got a gang. We’re losing our ass,” he said. “Gas is already six bucks, it’s gonna be 20 bucks in a couple weeks, a couple months. He doesn’t understand, he’s destroying the world economy by disrupting the oil flow.”

Punatang, not sure where you're getting your "2024" turnout from, but they are estimating this was the largest "No Kings" protest so far. I can't attest to the rest of the country, but the Hilo one did stretch further in both directions this time than the previous two.

leilanidude, we don't have a king, just someone who acts like one. And the fascism is easy to see: destroying checks and balances like independent watchdogs, threatening politically and legally anyone who opposes him (including members of congress and his own administration), instructing the now non-independent DOJ to attack his enemies, threatening to cut funding specifically to states that did not vote for him (like us!), violating the Constitution, etc. I'd go into greater detail but it wouldn't be local.

Looking forward to seeing the MAGA rally on the Hilo Bayfront in support of tariffs, our new forever war, higher gas prices, and funding cuts to Hawaii programs. I'm sure the attendance would really set some records!
