Have you bought any gas lately?
#51
Bought gas… or schedule an appointment with a doctor?  Doctors in Hawaii are not reimbursed at the same rate for cost of living as comparable cities on the mainland.  How will this affect our already limited availability of doctors here?  What about specialists who fly to Big Island from Oahu to treat patients here?  Gas, fertilizer, electricity, food, and now doctors:

When a Medicare patient in Honolulu goes for a routine, moderately complex, 40-minute follow-up appointment, for example, the feds reimburse the Hawaiʻi doctor $202. A doctor in San Francisco gets about $235, roughly 16% more. Multiplied over the course of the year, it can add up to tens of thousands of dollars less for the Hawaiʻi doctor. Hospitals face the same sort of discrepancy.

“The bottom line is, the Medicare reimbursements we get do not accurately reflect the cost of doing business and providing care in an island state like Hawaiʻi,” U.S. Rep. Jill Tokuda said.

Asked about Congress’ move to limit Hawaiʻi’s funding for Medicaid, state Sen. Angus McKelvey, vice chair of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act “one big barrel of bullshit.”

we change the name

Who needs doctors and medical care when you can simply change the name of things without addressing the illness, the problem, or provide actual treatment?  How about let’s just change the subject! That should do the trick!

“Good morning, I have your Big Beautiful test results back.  You have Big Beautiful cancer.  Unfortunately for you, and my level of reimbursements, I can’t offer you any bedside manner, treatment possibilities, or answers to questions you might have.   Did you get that Big Beautiful tax refund this year?  I’d spend it all quick.  Gotta go, I’m on the clock!”

Everyone gets to the point they're begging the doc for a cure.. it don't matter the politics, the religion, the economic status.. everyone want's that frickin' doctor to walk on water when it's their turn. And anyone that says otherwise is just blowing smoke up your ass.

Yup.
And just like there’s no atheists in foxholes, there are no Republicans from the time someone’s in the emergency room until they receive their last bill from doctors, labs, hospital, insurance company…

That’s when they’re true believers in publicly subsidized ambulances, county government hospitals, Medicare parts A, B, and D and any other entity who will pay part of their bill.

Durian Fiend - No,  not terribly inconvenient for me.  I was thinking more so for the younger generations you've referenced.  BTW there's been very little demand destruction so far in the US, according to our energy secretary.

Demand destruction looks to be just getting started, and is particularly ramping up in the Pacific-Asia region. As Hawai'i gets ~80% of its oil from foreign sources, it seems we're particularly exposed (hence the almost immediate HECO rate hikes).

Punatang - Has the left abandoned climate science?
The left-of-center folks prefer to address climate science through industrial policy and incentives to increase user adoption, not bombing and killing thousands of innocents including over a hundred school girls. The willingness to murder kids to accomplish political goals doesn't leave any moral ground to stand on as some of that younger generation of such "concern" now have no more time to enjoy the planet or anything else because of political choices made by some here in the US. Elections have consequences.

So we get yet another round of leftists, and really anyone of conscience or aloha, having to state Not in my name/Not In Our Name should there be "endless war, transfusions of blood for oil, invasions of foreign countries, bombing civilians, and killing children." Seems easy enough for most to agree with, right? And yet...

And yet...

We're left with that vile aftertaste whenever we think of our very own no more regime change wars Tulsi doing yoga on our beautiful shores.. what a * witch.

Sorta reminds me of those vile assholes that have coopted the elections commission.. same fuckers.. same vile lies.

And we pay for it every which way.. even at the pump.

Oh boy.  Let's hope we don't become the next Cuba.

"... if you have a private vehicle in Cuba and want to get gas for its tank, you have to enter a virtual queue and wait your turn. That takes more than a month. If you have an official government vehicle, like a taxi, you can fill up once a week. “What we’re learning is that people are siphoning off some of that gas and selling it on the black market,” Jack said. The price is approaching $40 a gallon..."

This quote actually might not be from the link below.  Can't remember which NYT story it came from.

Gas will be more expensive for us here in Hawaii, but apparently there will just not be enough in other parts of the world! Diesel and jet fuel too... Already booked some travel off island for later in the year, as I expect it will only get more expensive.
