Interesting request from the poster who has to date made 9 posts on this thread, of which, 3 are just lightly discussing the thread topic of geothermal power but mostly centered on being against LNG coupled with undertones of political grandstanding for a former governor of Hawaii who served 24 years ago and political incompetency for the current governor, a few more posts complaining about the him/her with the mean GREEEN Star and a few more posts using the "but, but, but, this poster or that poster did this over here and never got "GREENED" argument.
And even further, you have not offered one comment about YOUR thoughts or opinions about Native Hawaiians, by and though DHHL, developing this virtually unlimited resource?
On the thread topic for me personally, I think this whole new DHHL geothermal development is wonderful news. My fear is it will devolve into it being something similar to this happening over and over and over.

Your fear? I see no reason to doubt that geothermal expansion won't happen here. I gave the reason in post #9 in this thread. You just provided another, relatively unrelated reason why expansion won't happen. It's frustrating, and it's preventing young people from getting good jobs and careers. The longer this myopic attitude persists, the worse things will be for kids here, and those with talent will continue to leave the islands.

But hey, 'Tang, if you got any ideas about geothermal.. or how we might meet our energy needs.. Tom broadened it.. I responded to the broadened.. But really.. what do you think of the DHHL folks going into the geothermal business? That's pretty cool, don't you think? Really, what do you think?
Let's get this straight. I broadened it by mentioning nuclear power and said it wasn't a fit for Hawaii. You responded with a bunch of non-sequiturs, including that we don't need more radioactivity, despite there not being more radioactivity, and then eventually agreeing with the point I was making that we're sitting on a place that should exploit geothermal energy. I also said that geothermal energy will not expand here for reasons unrelated to science. In the meantime, I showed that nuclear fission is safer than most other current energy sources, but that it's just not viable in Hawaii. I asked you to point out any mistakes I made, and you didn't. Then you posted about a criminal act you witnessed on PW, but you haven't given us an update on what action the police are taking.
Have I summarized things accurately?

Accurately, yes. But confusing, nonetheless.
As I had originally stated, I think this whole new DHHL geothermal development is wonderful news. But my fear, yes, fear, is that it will be at the minimum hampered with, or even derailed due to the, as you said, frustrating and myopic attitudes that persist and will make things much worse for the kids here, and those with talent will continue to leave the islands.
Hawaii SHOULD be leading the world in geothermal development.

HSEO asserts that existing State laws are adequate to address current concerns associated with nuclear energy. Conventional nuclear reactor design leads to power plants being too large for the State, often in the 1,000MW range, and very few advanced nuclear reactor designs, such as Small Modular Reactors, have been built around the world.

The U.S. Navy would beg to differ with that.

Probably a different situation between Pearl Harbor and HECO don’t you think?
The Navy has a near infinite budget and no shareholders they report to. They also avoid the threat of earthquakes, tsunami, hurricanes, etc, since the reactors float and can move.

Two nays. I say "yea", the DHHL geothermal will move ahead with minimal "pushback". The times and tech have changed.

Being clear, I am a "yea." With a fear.

US Navy operates semi-sealed (they only open them up every 20 years for refueling) small reactors. The S6G reactor (Los Angeles-class) produces roughly 150–165 MWth, while the modern S9G reactor (Virginia-class) is rated around 210 MWth. Meanwhile little PGV is outputting about 32 MW and hoping to expand to about 45 MW.

I don’t think they’re at Pearl Harbor are they? Maybe they’re used in less geological and weather affected locations? There are plenty on the subs. Some on ships I’ve heard.
