Your carbon footprint in Hawaii
#41
And back then, with no motors, no Elon Musk's Boring company, no more than the love of women and the work of man (as Bob Weir would sing) they built a 9 mile long tunnel inside the pali of Waipio in 13 months. To do so they brought an entire ship filled with Chinese labor, and through shear will burrowed that tunnel in short order. Pick axes and dynamite. And then returned those Chinese folks back home.

Yes, those imported Chinese workers, brought in with absolutely no coercion, on their free will, paid above prevailing wages, overtime for hours worked over 40 hours in any one week, housed in first class housing and fed with an overabundance of foods, provided health insurance, and state of the art safety equipment, protected if injured by workers compensation insurance and laws and in the end, sent back home with a bonus and the boss saying "good job" and a firm manly handshake!

Nothing to do with one race of people enslaving another race for the benefit of yet another race. No white privilege whatsoever.

Are you saying that coming from a place of privilege though?

If being an American counts, sure. We all come from a place of privilege. If you're asking about me personally, I was on my own, without two nickels to rub together, and homeless at 13.
"If being an American counts" said it all.
Being homeless at 13 is rough, but it clearly didn’t stop you from becoming the very self-deluded, guilt-ridden virtue-signaling fool you criticize. You climbed out, tasted comfort, then traded real resilience for performative sensitivity and seal-like barking in progressive circles. ROJ material all the way. Hardship forged you, ideology broke you.

Hardship forged you, ideology broke you.

Yep, and all I want is a planet left as it was found. Nothing more or less..

And instead 90% of life is the ocean is gone.. and folks waste their lives believing they have a right to keep killing..

As I said way earlier.. I would rather a salamander than humans that behave like that. And no.. that is not a threat to come and shove a shotgun up your okole.. as some were want to believe the first time I said it.

Life is precious, it's a frickin' miracle. If that ain't enough there's something way wrong...

A song for today..

That's the neat thing about atmospheric pollution, is that we all are.

It's like we're all fish, swimming around in the same bowl.

And I'm the one with diarrhea.

Look at your reply, Mymanao.

Again, pure arrogance wrapped in sanctimony. You quote “Hardship forged you, ideology broke you,” then immediately crown yourself the planet’s humble savior: “all I want is a planet left as it was found,” 90% ocean life gone (exaggerated alarmism), and you’d rather have salamanders than “humans that behave like that.”

Humans didn’t “find” the planet — we are part of it. But you elevate yourself as the enlightened guardian of miracles, lecturing the rest of us greedy destroyers while performing your sensitive, superior soul for applause. No solutions, no realism. Just another round of virtue-signaling superiority.

Classic ROJ trust-fund mentality in action. You simply can't help yourself, just like so many others with the same mass-delsusion. Drop the routine already.

My work at existing nuclear power plants

wahine, you didn’t happen to do your undergrad work at UW did you?  My first college girlfriend had a roommate who had postcards and photos of nuclear power plants from around the country as wall decorations.  Most people I knew had day glo Hendrix or Che on their walls, so I remember going around the room to see where and what she had picked out as kind of her personal top 10 list.  Quite a variety of designs! I think she was majoring in nuclear engineering if I remember correctly.  Quiet, but very agreeable, when we asked when she might next be studying at the library for a few hours?

MyManao, you kinda ignored my questions though, what is a someone today supposed to do if they don't have the money to turn down a commuting job or afford a carbon neutral lifestyle close to their work? Sure there are many small decisions those people can make to reduce their impact, but the biggest impacts (commuting, whatever powers their apartment) are not totally up to them. I don't think it's fair to browbeat the working class when the oligarchs are directing society as a whole off the pali.

And yes, I'm not sure the various generations of indentured servitude here would look back on those "good old days" with the same perspective. Nor would they be able to find a solution to an extinction level cosmic event or create a vaccine for a deadly pandemic. Sometimes progress is messy, but better than no progress.

  • Nuclear power is crime against humanity. There is no discussion.

I'd say your life has been a story of the "American Dream," whereas you managed to come here, stake out a homestead and "cut your teeth" so to say and built an apparently very comfortable career but, I would think, you would have a little empathy to those faced with what some might consider to be carbon "unfriendly" jobs when you consider that your own career was in partnership with a Company who made the product that your artistic professionalism captured and brought to life for all to see, that is also the same Company whose products that allowed your life's work to exist, single handedly created untold environmental damage and is the same Company that actually enriched the uranium used on the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, instead of lecturing them sternly and in some cases, their right to exist.

You're fun Kane. At one point you say nuclear is the cleanest safest pound for pound source of energy, when it in fact it creates toxins that kill anyone that come in contact with them for thousands of ears AFTER they're thrown away. And as everyone knows, that's not clean or safe. And at the same time we have, right here in little ol' Puna, in our very neighborhood, an example of a real, clean, safe, and wholly without waste of any kine, robust energy source being proven, and it is ready to be scaled up to meet all our needs.

Yet somehow in your interpretation of this reality, nuclear beats all others for being safe and clean hands down. That's, by my measure, the delusion running through this thread today. You can say it's me, my ideals and upbringing (and yes I was on the bus) and all that, but hey, we all have our own take on things, right?

As to ROJ.. I never heard of it, so looked it up on some slang definition sites, no AI involved btw, and I am sure you're being mean and hateful and all kinds putting me in my place with it but the closest I come is it's an affirmative.. or the Return of the Jedi. LOL! Seriously man, maybe go smell some flowers for a while.. drink some coconuts.. sit under a palm and grok how precious that trade wind breeze is..

I'm just a person, these are my ideas, no need with all that other stuff, yeah?

I never fart.  Therefore I am allowed one AI image every two days.  Since I only make one (AI image) about every 3 months on average, I can spend those farts on other things.  However, from now I won't, since Kirt has sent me into a guilt spiral over having Tang, Jr.
