Nice looking truck HOTPE. I still wish they made the original compact trucks from the 1990's for places like Hawaii - like the original "Toyota Pickup," or the Nissan "Hardbody," the Chevy S-10 and the original Ford "Ranger" but using today's battery technology. I'd have one for sure!

As Durian Fiend noted there’s a charger at Costco. And about 20 other chargers near Costco. Free chargers at Target for an hour or two. Level 3 at HECO, where you can get about 3 or 4 miles of charge per minute. I’ve used the HECO chargers, they’re fast. You can probably get all the extra power you need for a return trip to Pahoa in the time it takes to check the latest on Punaweb, grumble about it and click Post Reply.
fast charging from 20 to 80 percent should take 30 minutes.
The truck is $25,000. New. My first car was a used VW minibus with no bumpers, and the last year they made that model without a gas gauge. It got me where I was going. It cost $400. I had a little mechanical trip thingy clipped to the visor with hand turned numbers that I set to the current odometer reading when I filled the gas tank. I knew how far I could drive before I needed more gas. I only ran out once in 2 years, but was close enough to the next gas station I could walk.
The heater barely worked in a cold climate. I dressed like I was outside inside the van. Top speed was around 50-55 miles per hour. One time I was driving with my girlfriend on a four lane highway in winter, in the right lane. I heard someone beeping at us from behind. I thought, “they can pass, what’s the problem?” As they pulled up next to us, slowly, it was another couple, bundled up in parkas and wool hats driving in a nearly identical old VW minibus, beeping, with big smiles, and waving. Brothers and sisters in arms, we beeped back, laughing.
It was cheap. There were limitations. There were good times.
I was at Orchid Isle Ford this afternoon and saw a beige colored old-style VW Bus/Pick Up in near mint shape. Was unable to get a pic, but there's someone tooling around Hilo in one!

That distance is 185 miles round trip.

If you are not aware of how EV ratings are made, you would think it would be OK. They do not take into account, HILLS and although there would be some regenerative charging on the downhill portions, you cannot gain more energy going downhill than you expend going up.
One station means you either hope, pray or wait...
Note on PlugShare:
One ChargePro SemaConnect station at the end of the handicap parking spots on the west side of the building. Watch out for people unplugging your car!!!
You would think it'd be a no-brainer to have charging stations at the Mauna Kea recreation area.
It would be a cool future where our island invested in solar and geothermal and taxpayers get a proportional amount of cheap or free power. Where charging stations are more common than gas stations...
