I still think (ie, in my opinion) Tam is about as good as a snake oil salesman. He doesn't know what he's talking about, has no experience, and when confronted with any kine pushback becomes childishly hostile and impatient. He would be a failure as Puna's political representative at the state legislature.
I have personally known Tam for years and find this statement, based upon those years of discussions with and knowledge of Tam to be 100% false. In fact, I'd also say 100% the opposite. (i.e., in my opinion)

I was discussing Tam's statements about Pohoiki (where he said the ocean filled in the bay with sand) with a friend, and showed them the evolution of the sand migrating across the dredged void, as I clearly documented here.
Who then said all that to Tam in the comment section of his Medium article here.
And he wouldn't have any of it. After he was refuted instead of listening, and asking questions, he said..
"I won't be engaging further with you on this b/c you clearly don't know what you're talking about"
He wants people's votes, and here's a complete stranger asking him questions, making observations contrary to his and he just flatly refused to discuss it.
I reached out otherwise to try and clarify and was met with the same.. if I didn't agree with him he didn't have the time of day for me. And hey, I wasn't making anything up.. all I wanted to do was to get him to look at the pics. But no, anyone that says the bay wasn't filled in by the ocean is not worth talking to because, by Tam's words, they don't know what they are talking about.
I really do not think he has what it takes to work with others as a political representative must.

I have no idea what game it is you are trying to play here, but the linked Medium article you provided where you claim a "friend" said all this stuff to Tam about Pohoiki and PGV is clearly yourself (all the OMG's and stuff, your tried and true style is a dead give a way!) and further, Tam's 2 responses do not say anything about "I won't be engaging further with you on this b/c you clearly don't know what you're talking about."
In as much as both responses do say that you got your facts wrong, just what the hell do you think caused the channel to fill back up with sand if not caused by the ocean? Even the Department of Land and Natural Resources says that "it is aware that the recently dredged Pohoiki Boat Ramp entrance channel has filled in with volcanic debris due to tidal conditions during the past week.”
The 2nd response Tam made was with respect to PGV and also states that his facts were supported and sourced and goes on to clearly say "If you disagree on specifics, please say where and what source you are relying on. In the event that I have something wrong I am glad to change and I will appreciate your pointing out an error."
So, again, I don't see the need for you to play the game you're playing here, and, in my opinion, I don't see Tam as being the one who does not know what the hell he is talking about. But if you're going to lie about this stuff, don't provide links that prove you're lying?

Friend = family, who has lived with or near by for over 50 years. Who has a Medium account, which I don't, and was sitting at the dinning room table on their laptop when the first exchange was composed. And yeah I was there sharing my ideas on the fly.
As to all that other stuff. I have explained, and documented exactly what happened at Pohoiki. If you are unable to understand the geologic processes through the pics provided I can't help you. If you can answer any of the questions posed to Tam.. have at it. He couldn't. Where'd all that sand come from if it was carried in on the ocean? Where is any evidence it's accumulating at that rate anywhere else?
Anyways.. no need to go on.. you've already proven you're illogical.. as you say, 100%, over and over again. Raving really. Nothing's changed.. why would anyone think it had?

Amen my brother! It sure is grand!
I would hope, however, that the voters get to know the candidates they may vote for instead of listening to "a bunch of idiots" and "AI." Just because someone says something is true, does not make it true. Check the supporting facts as presented. Check the sources. Unless, of course, it's you saying something. Then, no matter who or what or any facts, they are wrong and you're right, 100%.
And being clear, with respect to the Hawaii State Representative District 4 candidates, I have no skin in the game, nor am I raving, just being an observant observer. And as this thread has shown me after some reflection and the kindness of the Dude to post Zak the republican candidates resume of experience, he may be the best qualified to represent Puna District 4 at the State level.
It would be interesting to hear Greggor's take on PGV, and all other potential Geothermal possibilities as well as what to do with Pohoiki, if he would show up at a town hall, it be great! Maybe I can read about it on Tinder?

How does stating fact become raving? Maybe you are not aware of Greggor's past?

Is not the most significant thing when it comes to our actual bill. We, Hawaii island, have a very large grid, with a very small overall population. As such, if we were to measure our costs not by the actual creation of, but rather the distribution, then our's is, if not the highest nationally, damn close.
We can talk about the effect of the cost of gathering the raw materials, and the cost of running a power plant, but unless we factor into our considerations the cost of our grid we are missing the overall burden of those that supply us.
I think saying the oil comes from, and is refined wherever, and we could do this and that alternatively, is just energy porn. Just excuses.. look ma I know what I am talking about. Whereas talking about the cost of poles and wires and maintaining and upgrading, is boring. And wholly overlooked... The source and stability of oil deliveries for Hawaii is critical since the vast majority of power generation in the islands is diesel generated. Not to mention, almost exclusively used as fuel for our vehicles and airplanes.
The cost of maintaining a power grid is important to note, but is not the largest component of your grid tied bill. Yes, it's especially expensive in Hawaii. The most recent info I could find in a search is dated by 10 years:
"...From the pre-November, 2008 relationship between electricity prices and crude oil prices, we can approximate the fixed-cost component of price at about 10.7 cents per kWh, which roughly equals the number reported by Hawaiian Electric. This margin covers cost maintaining the grid, infrastructure, billing and Hawaiian Electric’s profits. This fixed cost roughly equals the average retail price of electricity on the mainland..."
