Hurricane season 2026
Still some heavy weather being whipped at us from the east / south east now. Widespread power outages (Nanawale to Kalapana) whole blocks of Hawaiian & Fern Acres, etc so plenty still to deal with (~14k without power on island), and that jog to the north still to come that even the Windy app has (?!). Hang in there peeps!

The latest from the National Hurricane Center.

"LALA SLOWING DOWN AND TURNING NORTHWEST AS IT BEGINS TO INTERACT
WITH THE BIG ISLAND OF HAWAII...
...WINDS WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE ON THE BIG ISLAND THROUGH THIS
AFTERNOON.."

My power came back on as did most of HPP.
2.38 inches of rain and a max gust of 26mph.

Hoping that when Lala moves to west side of Hawaii Island that the winds will calm down a bit on the east side. At least we got power back in lower HPP.

The question of the hour is: Will Hurricane Lala make landfall this afternoon, either as a hurricane or tropical storm? Or, has the train left the station?

Between 11 AM and 12 PM, the national Hurricane Center placed the eye near (-155.2 long and 18.0 deg lat). Looks fishy to me, but a map says this is west of Ocean View.

It's currently almost perfectly due south of South Point. Doesn't look like a landfall will be happening.

After clearing multiple downed trees today, some donated from the neighboring jungle lot and across the goat's fence line, I think I've had my fill. Let's hope as the storm's eye finishes getting around to the island's west side, we're also rounding the bend on this one. Hopefully everyone is weathering the conditions as best as can be and HECO is able to start mending the grid tomorrow for the ~63000 Big Island customers currently without power.

So, Barney officially says from 11PM Friday to 7PM Saturday, a total of 22.5 inches of rain has fallen in the 8 and E Road areas.

Further, of note, is that even though our solar holding just fine, HECO power service has been on the whole day, uninterrupted.

Will find out about any downed trees or other issues in the morning. And, thankfully, everyone we know made it through OK so far.

Yeah, let's hope. Last storm I was without power for six days. Oh, and I have acquired a new lake on my farm. Maybe I should buy a canoe.

Also, I expect tomorrow the CoH will be handing out food, water and ice at Pahoa Park and likely other locations.
