Right.  Fiscal responsibility always kicks in when it comes time for spending federal dollars on assistance programs.  A good thing that a federal judge blocked the cancellation of BRIC last year?

In a recent Punatang poll, when asked, nine out of ten Federal Judges did not identify as a member of a future generation.

One of the best reasons I heard recently to have age limits on all politicians of all walks as well as the judiciary is that they MUST retire at 65 years old, regardless of their age at being elected or appointed or any remaining length of their term including the elimination of lifetime appointments.

The reason being, so that there can be a reasonable expectation that post-retirement from elected or appointed office, they will live as a regular citizen for at least another 20 to 30 years in the world they just effed up.

Gov Green announced two FEMA appropriations, one on Aug 25 for emergency response to Lala, another on Aug 27 as posted in this thread.  I didn’t realize there were two and most of my earlier comments were directed toward a lack of funding for Lala’s damages.

The second FEMA funding for items unrelated to Lala, for statewide response, hubs, etc, probably will be helpful in the future.  I still would like to see more tree branches out and away from power lines.

New Rule:  All politicians and judges over 65 years of age are required to either spend their weekends clearing trees to Edge's specifications or tender their resignations to Hilo Julie.  Problems solved.

There is a great deal of merit to this suggestion. The reason our "powers that be" fail us so completely is that they have completely lost touch with the problems of their constituency. A mandatory weekend of hands-on would work wonders.

Maybe a law stating that planting or allowing to grow on your property, trees or vegetation that can interfere with power lines/poles carry a fine.

Considering that it is international law that all commercial jet pilots must retire at age 65 due to the potential medical risks such as heart attacks or strokes as well as reaction times and cognitive processing that declines with age, which impacts high-stress decision-making in the cockpit, I think my suggestion has quite a bit of merit.

The pilot mandatory retirement at 65 is in place for the safety of the passengers AND the pilots themselves yet, we have judges making decisions that impact every American, politicians who make the laws in the halls of congress that also impact every American and most importantly, have one guy with the nuke codes, over 80 years old. What impacts will those 80 plus year old politicians and judges see from their decisions to the American people in a few years?

I'd say it's pretty sad indictment on our political system when a certain politician has to literally make a proof of life video or to see some other old feeble guy constantly bragging about passing a cognitive screening test.

So, resignations gladly accepted.

Nope, not even then. Obviously we shouldn't be wasting billions to bomb school girls or to NOT build renewable energy, but yet we are, and somehow expecting there to be even more money to also fix the roads and trim the trees.

Maybe the bond market will instill some discipline, or maybe we'll hyperinflate our way out of the mess ala Greenspan's "The United State can pay any debt it has because we can always print money to do that", but this fantasy of the infinite money machine has a cost that is payed forward, often with little to nothing tangible to show for it. But that's obviously a problem for the keiki to deal with.
