Durian
#1
Anyone else a durian fan? This is a fruit from Asia that people either love or hate. The smell can make your mouth water...or make you want to vomit. People have very strong reactions to it.

Here's a funny sign:

Now my serious question. Is anyone having luck growing it in Puna? I saw some at the farmer's market in Hilo the last time I visited, so I know it is growing there somewhere.

Good! I'll have to put one in, especially given how cool they look!

There's one growing in the gulch next to our house. It has fruit on it frequently, but folks don't seem to line up to harvest them. I've looked at them but just haven't gotten the urge to look closer, let alone try and eat them.

It's an acquired taste.

I'll say. My husband took a weekend trip through rural Malaysia while working in Singapore. He said the buses/trains had signs posted, "NO DURIAN!"

My mom (vietnamese) loves Durian. My wife (filipino) also loves the fruit.

I'm sure they would love to hear that we can grow such a fruit in Hawaii.
