Rumi mentioned the weird plants that she grows in her frontyard, heliconias and such, plants that are houseplants on the mainland.

I gotta tell you, my brand new wife, Pamela, was floored when we were just driving around, taking in the sights. I can't name all the plants, but probably 10 or 15 different species were houseplant that we have or had at one time, that we paid money for. They lend a quiet beauty to the house, kind of an exotic beauty, and we have to pay money for them here on the mainland. In Puna, they grow wild by the acre. All mixed up together. She was all bugg-eyed, saying, ohmygod, there's ti plant. Ohmygod, there's an elephant ear. Ohmygod, there's little white orchids with purple on top, by the hundreds.

Heliconias are my favorite, I think, to look at, but I'll never forget the smell of plumeria. You get that imprinted on you as a kid, and it just never goes away.

Ahhhh, thanks for triggering that brain cell, Rumi.

How do I know?
Aloha! ;-)

The little orchids which grow wild are called Vanda. I love to spend a few moments in front of Wal Mart on clear days just taking in Mauna Kea from the base to the top.

When I have to go to town I don't go till after 9:00am so the traffic is done and sometimes after a new snow and you're driving towards Keaau, you'll get a moutain shot, snow capped with a rainbow in front. Now I got the shot somewhere on my computer I'll post it when I come across it next time, lol.

My favorite time of the day is now 8-9am the sun pours in, refracts off beveled glass doors, crystals and pond. It's a titilation of light. No frogs, just cricketts and no other sounds. The pile driver starts around 9 most days.

another day in paradise
