BEAUTIFUL MORNING....AGAIN
All the kaha kahi from yesterday has washed away with the night rain and again life is as it should be. Crystal lights reflecting off the rain drop tipped fan palm. Peaceful, sheep grazing, dogs sleeping and cat napping. Yawwwwwn

Clear view of the mountain this morning, the last snow tracks from yesterday (almost looked like 3 really big sled runs) are gone, the sun lit up the observatories in a pink peach glow....
Nini'o (Feral Kitten) is finally eating & getting beyond skin n bones....Thanks to the friends with giblets!)

A beautiful pure white feral kitty has adopted us this month. We named him Mr. Happy because he is just happy all the time - although we did talk about calling him Haole Boy with a nod to RicH!! ha ha. He bops around sniffing checkign everything out and just wants to be snuggled and petted!
I think he must have been someone's pet he is so tame for a feral cat - we did post pics in case he was just lost but he looked like he had been starving for weeks.

Carey's initial post on this subject about sitting at the beach and looking up at the snow-capped mountains reminded me of the disconnect that I recently experienced in the Falkland Is. I was with an ecotour group on Sea Lion Island where there was a perfect, unsurfable, blue water shorebreak peeling off at a white sand beach beneath blue skies... with a group of Gentoo Penguins preening on the beach and Southern Elephant Seals snoozing! Sea Lion Island island is flat, but if it had any mountains, it would be covered in snow, even as the Southern Hemisphere moves into its summer. The subsequent freezing squalls with horizontal snow and sand brought back some reality to the scenario. It's soooo nice to be back in Hawai'i, where the only snow is a dusting on Mauna Kea. Lucky we live Hawai'i.
My Michigan-bred wife asked me yesterday if it was hot and humid when I grew up in Honolulu. I replied that I knew nothing but the Honolulu climate, so it never seemed too hot or humid to me. These days, however, I know hot, humid, cold, and snowy; so the mild Volcano climes are just fine with me.
I'm trying out living on the east side of the BI because it's the closest thing to the desireable Island living that I loved while growing up in Honolulu. Honolulu isn't like that anymore; neither is Kaua'i, Maui, nor Kona.

Les, My 2nd cousins were born & raised on Oahu in the 50's-60's. They came to our house in Chicago most Christmases. They always talked about how wonderful it was in Chicago, & how much they didn't like Hawaii....I grew up thinking Hawaii was worse than Chicago in the winter (mind you, this was also the time that Alaska & Hawaii were usually mentioned together)
So 'tis weird that I ended up here, NO? (couldn't totally LEAVE the snow, but do like not ever having to shovel it....)
This thread started out really good and was hijacked halfway through, real ugly like.
So I'm bringing back the GOOD.
Today Beachboy came by with his youngest almost two year old son. He was memerized by my dogs and had "NO FEAR". Goes up several times to Crysocolia, (my youngest dane) and pats him on the head and then runs back to dad. Then I tell him to go give him a kiss on the head and he does.
Got island boy feet already truckin all around the property on skin foot. Checkin out everything. Real inquisitive and so well behaved. Terrible 2's? I think not this one.
He would raise his bottle to go cheers with you everytime I'd pick up my glass. After a muggy crowded morning in town this was soooo refreshing. He's such a delight. Love kids, by proxy these days. Already raised more then my share. But when they're like this little guy it almost makes you want to do it all again.....for a sec.
The 4 four footed kids I have now are enuf. Next time R we gotta get a picture of him in the saddle on the brindle. With a santa hat, would make a great xmas card.

Thank you, Punapetah for bringing it back.
My husband and I live on the Mainland right now, and will be moving to the BI next year. We have read many threads on PW and yes, many times we wonder how we will be accepted. Then, we remember why we are moving there……..
We understand that it's the attitude one projects that makes people either accept you or not. We are under the impression that if you wake up in the morning, enjoy your surroundings, care about the land and live Aloha, you should do just fine. We believe that is what matters. We are not coming to change anything....we are coming to respect the beautiful surroundings. We are coming to meet others that live Aloha. We are coming to slow down and smell the many wonderful scents.
I hope we are not misinformed and if so, please correct me. We just want to be around those that are thankful to be where they are.
Thank you, Punapetah for starting this thread, and for everyone else for sharing their beautiful thoughts and memories.

Ahhhh...rain after 7 days of no rain (so rare in Mountain View)! And lots of breeze blowing around right after my ipo got the Manila palm planted, so we can watch the fronds swaying... And the wind chimes making music. Sun peeks through, still sprinkling rain, "liquid sunshine" my father used to call it when we lived on Oahu in the olden days!! LOL! The uluhe ferns, even tho I'd like to pull many of them down from the ohi'a trees, are so green...green is good. This is December, and it's sooo green. Lucky to live Hawai'i.

I'll have to practice my diction, didn't catch that in the bylaws.
Sure do love these cool fall days, get lots of work done. Watchin this 100 footer 400 lots away sway 10 degrees in each direstion. Will it snap? We'll be out with chainsaws if I had to go anywhere. Even weeds can grow 100 ft tall.
PERFECT Movie afternoon.
