Funny you stated the dentist.

I was just reading about a doctor who was bartering services for medical work. (Can't find the link now)

And a few weeks year ago the Hawaii Dala was introduced... Haven't heard much since.

Now I'm thinking...

Why can't we have a Puna Dala or a Big Island Dala?[^][?]

I heard that they had or may still have a barter system in Kauai at a farmers market that uses some sort of made up currency as well. It's a good idea until someone counterfeits it.

I hear you there Andrew... but if it's minted... it should be somewhat difficult to counterfeit.

My bad on the above link, as it's almost a year old.

I have been thinking about this idea in the context of the gardening coop over in the gardening forum. I will see if I can find out more of how they did it over on Kauai. I think it's a viable option.

I have too many avocados and need some fish, somebody has too many tomatoes and needs some avocados, Somebody has too many fish and needs some tomatoes. A barter currency is needed.
