Am I the only on that sees that whenever a Democrat back peddles, its a compromise, but if a Republican does it, they lied.

Maybe she just wants to be able to pay out the welfare checks next year, or pay for health care... maybe she does not want to gut the budget of all those things that Hawaiians love so dear...

Gambling is just like dope as far as I am concerned. Legalize it and tax it. Provide rehab from the tax money.

Sure, keep some of that Lost Vegas $$$ here. I'd even buy a lottery ticket from time to time.

Legalize drugs, legalize gambling, outlaw fireworks... hmmm a trend...

I don't think it would be an asset. If it would make Hawaii unique it might help, but too many other places have it and those who wnat to gamble will go somewhere closer. Hawaii will lose some of it's family draw if it becomes a gambling state.

LOL... Hawaii is well on its way to joining the crowds of states that are broke... how about we make Hawaii be unique by being able to pay its bills?

Jon, I believe cockfighting itself IS legal, at least on this island. What is illegal is the cruelty-to-animals and gambling aspects (that's all you see on the police blotter when they bust a cockfight). Years ago, police pushed the county council to ban gaffs (the blade attached to the spurs) but there was a large outcry from its supporters and the bill was not passed.

What has diminished the activity somewhat was a federal law passed several years ago prohibiting the interstate transfer of fighting chickens.
