That's fine with me, if it's really fine with you. But I suspect it's not. Because that would mean there can be NO government recognition of marital/spousal rights, privileges, or benefits.
If your partner gets sick and is in the hospital, the next closest Blood relative makes the decision, not the spouse. You would need a legal medical power of attorney to over-ride the relative rights as no spousal rights granted by Government exist.
You get social security; your partner gets social security. One dies, their payments end right there on the spot. No one gets the higher of the two since it's a government benefit based on marriage.
You die and you wanted your spouse to have you cremated? Your spouse can’t make that call unless you have a legal funeral power of attorney giving your partner the authority to make the decision. Since no government recognition of marriage exist, no spousal rights exist, you’re nearest blood relative makes the decision.
Oh yeah, your spouse wins the lottery, it’s hers, free and clear as no government community/spousal property right exist any longer. Your just two individuals and she walks away from you with the money and you have no rights to it.
Oh and lets not forget that you don't automatically have beneficiary rights to your partner's pension, 401k, life insurance, etc that is granted by government involvement in marriage.
And let's not forget that if you break up, if the house and cars are in both names she doesn’t have to wait for any court proceedings before she sells her half that night to Chad and Vito (the 2007 & 2009 Gay Flame Goddess Winners) who can move right in.
Of course my favorite: NO Spousal Privileges so she can be compelled to testify against you because government provides no protection, as marriage doesn’t exist in the eyes of government.
All government involvement in marriage just disappears and you must now live the same life, have the same rights, fight for the same authority, and face the same challenges as all the same sex couples who do not have the benefit of government recognition.
You will become and have exactly what same sex couples have today.
