Why I am not leaving Verizon
#1
I was asking questions about getting a new cell tower

and kept saying that I'd never willingly leave Verizon, even with almost

no reception at my house.

I started this thread not only to testify that I am not crazy[Big Grin],but

to share amazing things Verizon offers.

At first I thought that everyone already knows it.

But then if being a Verizon customer for many years I discovered

some things relatively recently...

So,here they are.

1.You can talk to ANY Verizon customer in the US for free.

(Everyone knows that)

2.You can chose another 10 people to talk for free.

Absolutely no strings attached!

(The list can be updated, takes 24 hours for the change to take effect).

So if you are low on minutes and need to talk to HELCO to-morrow
(which means you can be put on hold forever)you just put HELCO on your friends[}Smile]list and remove it later (there's no enemies list though..[Smile]).

3.THE BEST KEPT SECRET.
Before the statement comes out you can request bonus minutes if you think you will go beyond the limit.
The bonus comes in 50,150 or 250 min.
Good for 60 days, during that period you can not ask for more.

Note: I am not sure if this applies for new customers.I've been with Verizon for 7 years.

4.If you change your plan, you are not locked in 2-year obligation.
It used to be like that, but not anymore.

5.Their customer service people are super friendly and genuine.
Using John Dirgo's pattern,"I can smell fake from 100 miles away".

Once I even asked one agent how the company picks up the customer service people. All of them were amazing so far.

And yet ... I am happy with ATT&T formerly Cingular. I quit Verizon because I couldn't stand their customer service. I was with them from before I moved here until 2007. Back in 2002 I looked at property in Leilani, and whenever we got to lower Puna we hit a dead zone for my phone, Verizon. We were told at the time that only AT&T worked for that area. That has probably changed a bit.

I can, on my plan, talk to anybody in the US for free. I have 3000 rollover minutes accumulated, so I never worry about needing bonus minutes. I have a big mobile to mobile allowance that I never use up allowing me to talk to all AT&T cell phones. AT&T allows for a list of free people to talk to as well, although I don't need it, but I'm on my family's list.

I'm glad you're happy but nothing on this list would tempt me as I already have it! Oh, and I have an iPhone now and although I am not an electronic toy kind of person, I adore this one. I don't even like phones but I LOVE my iPhone.

ATT&T rollback minutes comes with "conditions"?

What are they?

StillHope, your citing the goodies that Verizon has to offer covers everything but the cost.

I'm quitting Verizon. This was my first cell phone, and I bought it when I was still living in Las Vegas, in preparation for moving here because there were no land lines where I was going to be living. As such, I have a 702 area code.

The salesman knew where I was moving. He sold me a 3 year plan, and talked me into taking out $5.00/month "insurance". This meant that if my phone was lost or if I dropped and broke it, they would replace it for $50.00 (I don't remember how much they charged me for the phone but it was quite a bit.

My contract expires in April, and I haven't been happy with paying up to $50.00 per month (as long as I don't exceed the monthly allotment of minutes). I also haven't been happy about paying a monthly Clark County "Gis Fee" and a Clark County "Bus License Fee". Nor have I been happy with being charged for receiving text messages from people I don't know. Now for the good part... In October, with 6 months to go before my contract expires, the back of my phone fell off and won't go back on. I've been keeping it closed with tape. I guess I could tell Verizon I lost it or it was dropped and damaged and get another one for $50.00 but that would be lying, and being a suspicious person, I found it curious that it started falling apart within "earshot" of contract renewal.

I don't make that many calls so farewell, Verizon. I'm going to try a cheap phone and go with those "minute" cards.

What conditions, Hope? If I don't use them within a year they expire, I think, but I always have more coming along ... like I said, I average 3000 minutes rolling over. I have so many minutes that I never even bother to look at my itemized bill. My plan does cost $45 a month after tax, plus I just added $5 for unlimited texting. Not that I text very much but I won't get charged if people text me. The iPhone did require a $30 data plan, so that was a luxury.

centiped - My older son has been on one of those pre-paid minute phones for a few years and was happy enough with it. No frills phone. He got the double minutes thingie so that every time he buys more minutes he would get the double amount.

Centipede,I did try the prepaid phone and used the minutes only for really important short calls.
Unfortunately,it turned to be more expensive than to have a plan.
But in your case it might be different.
Pricewise all the companies are about the same .

About texting.I disabled that for the reason you mentioned, centipede.
The whole texting thing is crazy for me.Why would someone bother to do tiresome texting and get charged for that if you can just call or e-mail with no extra charge?.

May be for big businessmen who are constantly in the meetings and making money every call and have to respond right away not to lose money and not to interrupt the important meetings..

I liked Verizon too.I talked to them about 10 years ago about putting a tower near Kapoho. They said they were adding new towers all the time.About 3 years ago I finally gave up and switched to AT&T/Cingular.

One thing I like about ATT is the phones are unlocked.Just slip out the sim card and slip it in another phone.I buy our phones from ebay and thus do not have to sign a contract.

With Motorola phone tools you can backup your phone numbers and pictures without having to pay anything.I can change my ring tones to any audio file I want without charge.(mine is Don't fear the reaper by Blue Oyster Cult)My grandkids get a kick out of that

Agreed. Kids love it though and text all the time:

Howzit.

Hey whas up.

what you doing?

nutting. what you doing?

nutting.

OK c ya.

$5.00 on their parents bill.

I heard of parents who got their monthly bill in the several hundreds of dollars only to discover that most of it was their kids texting. LOL
