Saw a flash as I drove by. Does anyone know the purpose of these cameras? I saw one mounted to a power pole and one on a 45 mph sign.

If you see a sign stating "PHOTO ENFORCED" anywhere along the roadway, or entering or leaving a city in direction of travel that has enforcement cameras must be posted. Any type of mail citation with your vehicle and you in the seat as photo proof must have forewarning (the signage) to be legal in court.
If you see the sign next to a city limit, or county line tag, the sign means anywhere within the city, or county areas the photo enforcement law applies. Edit to add wide area sign posting Community begins with Aloha

a sign stating "PHOTO ENFORCED"
I believe the Code must first be amended to allow photo enforcement. County is also using "non-enforcing" devices to measure the existing "speeding violations".

Phoenix AZ tried the camera game for a while but the courts began tossing them out. eventually the cameras came down.
While I'd never, ever encourage speeding, I'd advice if ya get ticketed in mail, go discover what the peps did over there that ruined it for that county.

Noticed them this week for the first time, on a variety of signs both north and south bound in Hwy 130.

I was thinking "PGV EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM" but that'd hard to fit on a license plate.
