Lovebird found - Kaloli Point
#1
An extremely friendly lovebird is hanging around my lanai (I will not be capturing it). I'm on Kaloli Point (lower HPP). If anyone is missing a lovebird please post here.

It's not ours this time. Probably hand fed if it's extremely friendly. Hopefully, it will fly to someplace with other birds (and food and water) or better yet, fly home. Mahalo for posting!

Don't be insulted by my question, I just don't know your familiarity with bird species. That said:

Are you sure it's a lovebird? Somebody has plastered color posters about their missing cockatiel over half the island.

I am not insulted at all. I am not a 'bird person' but I'm sure it is a love bird (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosy-faced_lovebird). It has been coming and going from our lanai all day and was surely someone's pet. It has landed on our heads, shoulders, laps, nibbled our ears. I have found someone who is willing to adopt if we can manage to get it into a pet carrier.

If the person adopting it brings a cage to your house, just put some cockatiel/lovebird sized seed in a dish with some water. Likely the bird will go into the cage and you can just close the door.

That's the perfect way to re cage a Lovebird Dayna!
We usually start with a bowl of water and seed on top of the cage because the birds are usually really dehydrated and hungry when they get out. Once he/she feels safe, they almost always go in the cage. Sounds like the bird at your house is so tame, you could just stand there and he'd come to you. That is one tame Lovebird, definitely hand raised.
I have spare cages too if you need to borrow one.

Ps. We need a female Lovebird. Our boys are so deprived of female companionship that they're feeding each other when they're not trying to mate with a stuffed animal in their cage. It's cheap entertainment.

I saw a picture of the bird in an email sent by our local neighborhood watch. It's definitely not a cockatiel and I agree with SoCal that it's a lovebird, and quite a cute one as well!

I saw the photo too and it's definitely a lovebird. I used to own lovebirds. They have the cutest personalities, very engaging and energetic, and are called lovebirds for a reason...[Wink]

Thanks all. I did put the food into the carrier as suggested and the little guy would walk in grab some food then walk out to eat. Smart fellow. I saw him in the trees this morning but he has not come in for a visit.
