rezoning Mauna Kea
#1
Latest argument, in the form of a petition to State LUC: telescopes are "industrial" therefore the State must zone Mauna Kea "urban" in order to allow their construction and use.

The last major testifier on Friday was Deputy Attorney General Bryan Yee, speaking on behalf of the Hawaii County Planning Department. Among Yee’s lengthy testimony, he stated that it is inaccurate to look at land boundary classifications as prescriptive determinants of what can be built.

“Some urban use is permitted in non-urban districts,” Yee said. “The [district boundary amendment] just determines the standards of building on that land.”

“I strongly believe that if UH had come to this body to begin with to actually attempt to rezone from conservation to urban, this commission would have never agreed after doing your homework and finding out just what Mauna Kea means to a majority of people, especially on Hawaii island,” Ka‘iama said.

Question: who is this majority of people? How much majorty? Which people?

Industrial?
What do the observatories produce? Zero emissions is a product?

Maybe the “protectors” should be zoned industrial. Since they manufacture and package their own line of facts. Not to mention the traffic problems they create while selling their crock.

Maybe the protectors should start by respecting the law if they are going to demand that others do the same. Here's an easy one: tents require a permit, campgrounds too.

Those who live in tents without permits, shouldn’t throw zones.
