I have a huge area of bromiliads that is completely out of control. I started cutting plants around the perimeter but they have razor sharp leaves and after a few cuts I call it a day. I've probably removed 50 or so, but that's the tip of the iceberg. I looked online to see if roundup will kill them but couldn't find a definitive answer and bromiliads have a somewhat different growth habit than normal rooted weeds.
Anyone have experience in this area? If so, did you apply as usual? Any specific tips?

I’ve accidentally sprayed some of mine with roundup and it didn’t seem to affect them.

eventually, if you spray them a lot....
Ive nicked many and you can tell they were sprayed, but I dont remember actually killing them, I believe they grew back from woody stems. Ive never tried on purpose.
imo, Just get good thick gloves and a machete or shovel and hammer on them for a good 1/2 hour... til you poop out... then do the same thing 3 months from now when some grow back from the woody stems (the live part)... and then same kine again a few months later if any left... Ive kills them this way many times when they climb up trees 10+'

I'm not ready to declare using salt a success just yet, but initial results are promising.
I bought a 40# bag of pool salt for $8.00 and applied the salt granuals into the center of the bromiliads where they hold water, during a period of dry weather.
3' high bromiliad - about 2 heaping tablespoons
2' high bromiliad - about 1 heaping tablespoon
I did this about 10 days ago and the plants are turning brown, the tissue is softening, and if I pull on them the center part separates from the lower part of the plant.
ONE CAUTION:
Some of my bromiliads are under trees. The salt could eventually affect tree roots after the bromiliads break down, or during a heavy rainstorm. Use carefully under tree canopies.
