Manago Hotel closing but restaurant staying open
#1
(there was already a thread for this but apparently it has been lost)

https://bigislandnow.com/2024/01/18/nonp...e-housing/

Payton said the Manago Hotel restaurant will not close, adding the Manago family has “graciously tentatively agreed to share their signature recipes, including their famous pork chops.”

Oh well, there goes the only affordable place to stay on that side. I guess I'll have to get over a few more times before they close.

Unfortunately, this will be the one time that Hawaii actually gets something accomplished in a reasonable time frame. But I'll hold out hope that it will take years, like most "projects" that happen here... if they ever happen.

Can’t wait to hear what has/will happen to the 5.5 million awarded to Mental Health Kukoa to buy the hotel for a new homeless shelter.

Here's the listing. Apparently the mental place couldn't close the gap between the 5.5M award and the 7.5M wanted?

https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/82-6151-...iteid=6315

Hmm.... 7.5M, lets assume we can talk them down to 6.5M.  Divided by 42 rooms, that's ONLY $154,761.00 per room!  And it comes with a FREE Punaweb Bar and Grill.

I understand that the tough part will be getting it to Puna, but if 42 of us can pony up $154k we can make this work!

Pork chops and beer are on Rob!

Good sleuthing, terracore. This part is sort of scary (from the listing):
"Significant potential to elevate Average Daily Rate (ADR)"
Certainty will be the death of us.

I "whipped up" some signs!

punaweb1

punaweb2

Rather than voting, we can use all three!

punaweb3

(forum rules only allow 2 images per post, apparently)

punaweb4

Lets see if it lets me add a 4th this way.

"Apparently the mental place couldn't close the gap between the 5.5M award and the 7.5M wanted?"

Makes one wonder just how was the 5.5 million applied for and then granted and under what terms and conditions?

I can't imagine anyone can just make an application to be awarded money from any grant or financial aid funding, especially with respect to the acquisition of a major piece of property without at least some type of binding agreement in place.

But then again, this is Hawaii County! I wonder how much the "administration" fees will end up being!

"I understand that the tough part will be getting it to Puna, but if 42 of us can pony up $154k we can make this work!"

I'm in!

Who was the company that moved the painted church years back during the Kalapana lava flow?? Maybe they can help us out!

"Pork chops and beer are on Rob!"

Well, Rob, knowing the Punaweb Bar & Grill clientele, the good news is the pork chops will be much cheaper than the beer tab!

I love the signs terracore!

But this being Pahoa, I can't help but think that maybe the letter "R" in "BAR" should be printed in BACKWARDS?

I'm overwhelmed. Just licensing the t-shirts alone could potentially cover the cost of a feasibility study and a 12 pack. Epic stuff there TC.

pony up $154k

Is there a Black Lava Level that entitles the benefactor to free beer for life?
