Hey Fiend! I hope you have an amazing birthday. What was the highlight of the last year and what plans do you have for your next one?
Cheers!

I didn't know it was Durian Fiend's birthday, so I wish you a wonderful birthday! I still owe you lunch or dinner one day, I haven't forgotten!

Thanks everyone. The highlight of this past year was visiting Greece. It had been 10 years since I'd traveled internationally.
My wife wants to visit France next year. Sounds good to me!

A rural location with many good hiking options is what I heard that sounds good. My wife is fluent from living in Senegal and Paris many years ago. She also might have a really nice place to stay in Paris for free. Although I'm not so keen on Paris she loves it.

Ahh Paris. TomK you would have appreciated a night at Les Baines Douches back in the 80s. It was $14 for a Corona even back then but you were likely to see Prince, or Mick in a pool or an impromptu performance by Depeche Mode. You had to know someone to get in and it was literally another world.
Fiend, I hope Greece was great and wish you un bon voyage!
Happy Birthday. You may have all of my allocated durians. =)

The one good thing about Paris is it's only just over two hours by train to England!
PS. Another two hours to the best fish and chips!

Heavens! In four hours you could be in Germany and enjoying some real food. I've always strained to comprehend how a culture which descended from Germans (Anglo Saxons) managed to screw up the food so badly.

But that's four hours to a place that makes strange-tasting sausages, gassy beers and pretend schnitzels. At least go a little further to Austria and try an authentic Weiner Schnitzel and potato salad!
